Sangria! Sangria!

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2012
don't bother with the extras like the sugar and carbonated water. i don't even use the maraschino cherries. the drink stands well enough alone with the mixed ingredients and fresh fruit slices. simply delicious.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2012
i used 9 noodles and it was delicious. next time i may consider using my favorite sauce from allrecipes, 'old italian meat sauce', the recipe adjusted for serving size. it tastes more winey.

Spicy Oven Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2011
I wish I had pounded the breasts thin, but did not. I also did not use enough hot pepper sauce in the marinade. I used the seasoned flour, a beaten egg and panko crumbs and rested the coated chicken in the fridge for awhile. I browned the chicken in a mixture of butter and olive oil. I used cookie rack in the pan to raise the chicken and avoid soggy bottoms. It was tasty!

Basil Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2010
The tomatoes were too acidic, so instead of 1 tspn of sugar i ended up using 5 tspns. I added salt, fresh ground pepper, dried basil, italian seasoning, garlic powder. It was very good. UPDATE: I had a lot of friends who were sick this Christmas, so instead of cookies I gave them a quart of this soup in a canning jar; after all, it does have the Christmas colors of red and green in it! Merry Christmas!

Chicken Piccata II

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2010
My changes were: Pound chicken, dredge in flour first, then egg, then panko bread crumbs. I added capers. I then sauteed my already cooked fettucini in the chicken drippings with even more lemon juice and butter and a lot of parmesan cheese and it was very yummy. Thanks for the recipe.

Cream Puff Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2010
I had the clumping problem, too. The flavor was good but I hardly tasted the cream cheese. I did what other reviewers recommended and used the icing from Eclairs II and used it on top of the cream puff dough before adding the filling, and that was really good. I just did a small dollop of frozen topping instead of spreading it around, as that stuff is just too sweet for me. The cream puff dough is a classic recipe and that was perfect. I need to tinker with this more to suit my taste, but thank you for the recipe, Buchko.

Jam Filled Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2010
I added a pinch of salt and a little vanilla to the dough based on an earlier review. I followed a recommendation to use a baggie for dispensing the jam and it worked really well. I made a little glaze of confect. sugar, lemon oil and milk, did the baggie thing again (just a quick zig zag pattern) and it added a nice layer of flavor. Thanks for the recipe it was very tasty.

Easy Beef Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2009
This is a really great recipe that you can alter to your personal taste. I omitted the wine, and instead of canned veggies did a quick saute of fresh to include sliced onion, celery, carrot. I added a small can of mushrooms and some sliced baked potato. Thank you for the great recipe.

Cranberry Orange Loaf

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2009
I doubled recipe and made 5 mini loaves in the 3.5"x5" tins. It turned out pretty well, and you will most likely need the same baking time as you would a normal sized loaf; my oven runs a little hot and I required less time. I did what other reviewers recommended and created a glaze of orange juice, powdered sugar and vanilla. I added a drop of orange oil as well.
