Fuzzy Navel Slush

Reviewed: May 28, 2012
I only used a half cup of sugar and it was very sweet. Next time will skip it. Also, I used a full 750 ml bottle of peach schnapps and found the drinks were not very strong. That's 3 cups of alcohol! We wound up drizzling a little vodka on top. I like the method and will tweak my proportions next time.

Baked Ziti with Sausage

I didn't like the ricotta mixed in with everything. Think I would prefer it as a layer. I even used whole milk ricotta and I still found the final product gritty.

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2011
I liked the cooking technique....I used 2 lb of boneless skinless thighs. Could use even more seasoning, though. I added 1/2 a chopped onion and it could benefit from way more seasoning at the end. but meat was tender and tasted good over noodles and it was simple, so 4 stars in all.

Easy Batter Fruit Cobbler

Very good and simple recipe, but quite sweet and kind of one note. It would be excellent and quick with frozen fruit. More like a fruited cake.

Kalua Pig in a Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2011
This was excellent! I did have some red sea salt from Hawaii and used about 3 tsp on my meat (which was cut into large chunks). I sprinkled a small amt of liquid smoke (maybe 1-2 tsp) and used lots of cracked black pepper. No liquid, but it cooked down into it's own juices and the pieces closest to the edges actually got brown and crispy. Great for week night dinners. Love it!

Chocolate Cherry Cake III

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2011
this is excellent, but as written, the icing winds up cracking and gets a very stiff outer coat that breaks apart when you cut it. Otherwise it is yummy and so easy. I will try boiling the icing a little bit less next time!

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Mar. 8, 2011
excellent...the best pancakes I have ever made. I did add a touch more milk, because they were VERY thick. And skipped the melted butter in the batter. These pancakes were gobbled up by my two boys with almost none left for me!

Loose Meat on a Bun, Restaurant Style

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2011
My family really enjoyed this. I did double the onions, and it could have used more. My sauce wasn't reducing down much and seemd watery, so I wound up adding about 2 tbsp on flour mixed with water to thicken up the juices just slightly. These were super yummy with lots of pickles and I buttered and toasted our buns. Next time, might even try this on top of rice or noodles instead. We did also add some more seasonings, but this is a great base recipe.

The Best Sweet and Sour Meatballs

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2011
A very good recipe. I seasoned my meatballs more to my taste, though. This recipe called for no salt or other seasonings for the meatballs! I did double the sauce ( we like a lot) but I only did 1 and half cups of brown sugar (not the full 2 cups) and it was plenty sweet. A very good recipe. I also added a little ketchup and used cornstarch instead of flour to thicken.

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2011
I made these as written, but I did add some cinnamon (about 1/2 tsp to the batter) and some on top with my sugar as well. Without that, the muffins might have been a bit bland, but they turned out great. I loved the technique of softening the oatmeal in the milk. The muffins were tender and got thumbs up from my boys! Will make again!!

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

WAY too sweet and way too much soy sauce flavor. even with the alterations that some people recommended, I won't make this again. I'd rather start from scratch with a different base recipe. Sorry.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2010
as written, I would only give this 3 stars. However, I used the advise of some of the top reviewers for this recipe and that brought it up to 4 stars. First, I prefer chicken thighs and with 5.5 hours on high, they were cooked perfectly in the sauce. I used 2 cans of cream of chicken soup and 1/2 a can of chicken broth instead of water to cover. I spiced with pepper, seasoning salt and some thyme. I used one large can of grands biscuits, this was WAY to much dough for the amount of sauce and chicken in the recipe. I can't see how I could have even gotten 2 cans of biscuits in there!! I will try this again with the following changes: more chicken, 2 cans cream soup, a full can of broth and one small tin of biscuit dough. AND I'm so glad I followed early reviewers and let the dough cook for the last 2 hours, there is NO WAY they would be done after 30 minutes!!

Molly's Chicken

This was a good, basic recipe. I prepared it with bone in legs that I skinned. I think I woud prefer it with boneless thighs or breasts and I would reduce or thicken the sauce next time. Good flavors, though!

Basic Microwave Risotto

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2010
I am going to give this recipe 5 stars for the idea and technique. I have never made risotto before and have always wanted to. I've had this recipe saved for a long time and purchased the arborrio rice to make it. Well, tonight was my opportunity to try it out. I followed the recipe closely, but substituted shallots for onions (like the flavor better) and used chicken instead of veggie broth. This was very good, but I did use more liquid than the recipe called for. My rice container suggested 3 cups of liquid for 1 cup of uncooked rice, and I think that's a lot closer to what you will really need to use. I ran out of broth and had to add extra wine (didn't want to use water!) so mine ended up being pretty wine tasting (is that a word?). The kids weren't crazy about that, but hubs and I both enjoyed it. Would probably be great topped with some fresh chives or parsley at the end. Next time will plan of having more broth available and just a bit of wine. Loved the parm stirred in at the end. Will totally try this again and it's nice enough for company!

Ice Pops

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2010
very good ice pops, these have the actual softer texture like store bought pops (not rock hard and icy!). But they were SO sweet they almost knocked my fillings out (of course, the kids loved them). Next time I will cut the sugar back to 1/2 cup and go from there. Very good recipe though, thanks!

Cheddar Buttermilk Biscuits

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2010
very easy recipe. I followed another reviewers advise and made the whole thing in my food processer, just pulsing until the butter was in small pieces. I pulses several more times once the buttermilk was added and then dumped it all on the counter for a quick pat. Very easy even for a non-biscuit maker. The family loved these with beef stew!
