Three Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2010
I used 3 beef sausages instead of hot dogs, and whatever cans of beans I had on hand-- pork and beans, kidney beans, and white beans. A bit less sugar, and apple cider vinegar. This was a nice and easy recipe, that had a good flavor but gave me and my husband indigestion, so I dropped a star for that.

Tarte a L'oignon (French Onion Pie)

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2010
Great guideline recipe... I used 4 medium vidalias, 1 cup of half & half, generous amounts of salt, pepper, a splash of aged balsamic and a bit (like 2 teaspoons) of brown sugar, nutmeg as recommended, and thinly sliced bits of 1 precooked sausage. It generously filled 1 deep dish crust. This dish was delicious-- savory and sweet at the same time and very moist and filling. Thank you Nadine

Octoberfest German Potato Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 22, 2008
Thank you for this. I used red skin potatoes and they worked fine, (only boil for about 8 min though.)and since I don't keep/ care for parsley, I used dill weed, garlic powder, and lemon thyme... all coming together for a wonderfully flavored dish.

Unsloppy Joes

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2008
This is a great veggie sloppy joe recipe, although there is nothing unsloppy about them. I omitted celery (didn't have) and didn't follow measure, I just used 1 onion, 2 big carrots, i green pepper, etc. used balsamic vinegar instead of white, and added 3 or 4 tbsp tomato paste to make it more sloppy joe-ish, and I added 2 tbsp brown sugar. So even tho I totally altered it; it was a great guideline for making a great vegetarian dish! Thank you

My Mom's Swiss Steak

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2007
good base recipe... I followed the advise of some reviews, and added about 1/2 cup of beef broth, 4 cloves of garlic, red pepper, green pepper, two chopped fresh tomatoes, and served over mashed tater... good stuff; husband loved! BTW- I didn't need to cook for 1&1/2 hours, just simmering for 35-45 mins did just fine

Sukhothai Pad Thai

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2007
I made this according to the suggestions of "Bes" in the reviews. It turned out very well. I omitted the chilly powder and spiced it mildly with chili sauce, and I couldn't find the oriental radish, so omitted that too... didn't seem to miss it. the tofu really fell apart... next time I would try an extra firm. Over-all, turned out great. Tamarind and fish sauce should not be omitted if you want an authentic flavor.
