Tres Leches (Milk Cake)

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2011
I had never made Tres Leches before and a friend of mine from Mexico requested it for his birthday. He said this was one of the BEST Tres Leches he had ever had. I made the recipe as directed and topped fresh berries before serving. A great success!

Exquisite Pizza Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2011
I'm a huge fan! I added more garlic than the recipe calls for however in the future I may not do this since the leftover sauce used a few days later was nearly overwhelming with garlic. Great recipe and really quick!

Spinach and Orzo Salad

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2011
I was looking for an orzo salad recipe to get some ideas from and this one did the trick. I made a few changes for extra flavor. I cooked my orzo in chicken broth. added a few teaspoons of capers and caper brine, used fresh basil, and toasted my pine nuts before adding. I also lightly wilted my spinach before mixing it in with the pasta. If I have sun-dried tomatoes around, I'll chop and add those too. This is a go to summer dish in my house!

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2010
Perfect! Not that this recipe needs any more reviews telling you how wonderful it is, however it really is so delicious that I am here writing another! I made this for my boyfriend for our anniversary last week and it was a huge hit. I did some minor modifications including adding the following to the caramel: 1t cinnamon, a dash of nutmeg, and an extra few teaspoons of flour. I will not add the extra flour again because it made it too think and did not easily pour through the lattice crust. I followed other reviews and mixed 3/4 of the caramel with the apples before pouring the rest on top. I also used a mix of Macoun and Cortland apples since they were available at my local orchard. They blended perfectly with the crisp Macouns staying fairly firm. The caramel drizzled on top browned in the oven and made a shell topping which added another layer of texture and amazing flavor. This is definitely going to be my go to apple pie, of course how could it be bad with all that butter? YUM!

Bill Clinton's Lemon Chess Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2010
I made this for a Pi Day celebration (March 14!) and it was a huge hit. I had never made a custard pie before and this one came out great. As others have mentioned, it does make more than 1 pie (I used two store bought deep-dish Mrs. Smith's) so be preparred.

Mom's Best Waffles

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2009
I halved the recipe, used whole wheat flour (with an extra bit of baking powder), and added a few dashes of cinnamin, allspice, and vanilla extract. It comes out tasty and really hearty, perfect for a quick dinner!
