I've been in the military about three years now and I've tasted alot of awful food! I have the cutest little rat terriers named Howard and Ada. My husband is from Germany and I've learned a few German recipes from my mother in law. Most of my recipes are family traditions handed down from my grandmother and mother, and alot from my father too. I dont think I've ever made bad food; i think it's because i always use so much love!
My favorite things to cook
My favorite food to cook is fried chicken. Thats because i have so many great memories of my family cooking it as a kid. Any special occasion, Sunday supper, or reunions were made that much more special by fried chicken and the fellowship it brought, not to mention the induction to that famous southern tradition. As a child my father would bring me to Loveless Cafe outside of Nashville (where he knew the owner) and i would marvel at the cooks techniques and the delicious things they created.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Whenever i would go to my grandmothers house when i was a kid she always would find something sweet to bake. it was usually cookies, but sometimes it was cupcakes or (my favorite) strawberry cake.
My cooking triumphs
I was so pleased with myself when i learned to make perfect biscuits! Light, flaky, and full of flavor. So yummy with butter and honey.
My cooking tragedies
Despite my love of all things fried, i do try to cook healthy! Southerners typically do not eat fried chicken every day! I try to include a lot of whole foods into my diet, i just love fresh vegetables and would eat pineapple for every meal if i could. I'm also a big fan of baking, when you bake that just fills your house with good smells and draws everyone to the kitchen.
