What is Cowgirl Swank?

What is Cowgirl Swank? Well, it started out being my western bling retail business, but it has evolved into something more. I started Cowgirl Swank in March 2007. I sold a variety of women's western items including hair-on-hide handbags, Wildfire crystal belts, and my caps & visors. I design and make hair-on-hide, swarovski crystal caps and visors. I also put crystals on shirts, jackets, vests, etc. Needless to say, I definitely regret the handbag and belt portion of my business. The belts were incredibly expensive and I have literally had to beg people to buy them (for half of what I paid for them). So, I had a very bad experience in that portion of my business. My caps and visors are pretty popular and I have been doing quite a few brands (those of you with an ag background know what I mean). Overall, I am very proud of what I create. I have my own website: www.cowgirlswank.com. Please feel free to check it out.

I have decided to spread myself out a bit and venture into catering (of sorts). There are ranches in the area that hire catering companies to provide meals when they have big days (like branding, preg-testing, shipping, etc.). Most of these companies are over 100 miles away. I love to cook and I've decided to hang out my shingle for some of this business. I am anxious to see what direction it takes me.

Definitely good luck. Its a lot of work, I know! Here the ranch wives have to do all the cooking for branding crews of 30 and up, but we sure do eat good!! Fun people to be with!

About Me
I am happily married and have a son, named Stone. He was born in August 2008. He definitely keeps me busy at home. We live on a large cattle ranch in southwestern South Dakota. We raise black angus cross cows/calves and breed/raise quarter horses. I spend most of my days running my business "Cowgirl Swank" from home, taking care of my son, being the ranch cook, and helping outside as much as possible. We are involved in rodeo, but I haven't found much time to spend with my horses (or in the arena) since Stone was born. I am looking forward to that changing this as my son gets older. He has his own horse now so he will be able to go along when we go riding. My business has taken off and I am extremely busy with that. Other than that, I love being a mom and I love the fact that Stone will grow up the same way that I did (on the ranch with both parents present). I also love to cook and am always looking for new things to make. Allrecipes.com is my favorite site of all time!!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake cookies, pies, banana bread, zucchini bread, deserts, etc. We eat a lot of beef so I am constantly searching for new recipes to try to spice things up a bit. I love to cook for my family (so I love to cook just about everything).
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandma and mom are both incredible cooks. I am trying to follow in their footsteps. I love to make things that I remember from my childhood (just like grandma did). We always try to get together for the major holidays. There's nothing like enjoying the company of family and friends over a homemade meal.
My cooking triumphs
I mastered my grandma's Lemon Meringue pie recipe. It is incredible! I have gotten to be a very good baker. Now I'd like to master making bread and rolls (something that I am a novice at). I know that it takes a lot of practice to be a good bread baker. I'm up for the task!
My cooking tragedies
I haven't had a lot of tragedies (thankfully). I did try to make my grandma's bread (just once so far) and I didn't check the expiration on the yeast. Needless to say, it never raised and ended up getting thrown out. I will master bread making.....if it's the last thing I do! :)
