Refried Beans Without the Refry
I followed this recipe exactly with two small exceptions. After reading the reviews, I chose to use 4 c of chicken broth in place of some of the water and to cut the salt back to 3 tsp. But, something was very off with the flavor. There was some sort of chemical taste to the beans. The texture was perfect, but we believe that the garlic was to blame for the weird taste. I can usually pinpoint how a recipe can be improved, but I just cannot on this one. Not sure we'll finish the batch. We'll see how it does after resting a day or two.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings
Kind of boring, one note, salty and chickeny with no other flavor profile. I think we're just not big fans of chicken and dumplings. I poured over the reviews and made some recommended and common adjustments; one can of cr. ckn and the other cr. mushroom, added some poultry seasoning and thyme, used chicken stock instead of water and cooked biscuits for 90 min. Neither of us were impressed and my 2 yo wouldn't eat it. The soups and stock made it a bit salty and the dumplings cooked through but gummy on the outside. DH and I agreed that since neither of had ever had Chicken and Dumplings before, maybe others love it because it reminds them of their childhood.

Migas
Good flavor over just plain eggs, but the corn tortillas were too gummy. We may have let them sit too long since we weren't ready to cook the eggs after just 10 minutes of soaking. It needed picante sauce and a bit of salt to be yummy.
