Gourmet Sweet Potato Classic

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2009
Amazing!! I had no idea how many sweet potatoes to use seeing that they are all so different and all I could find were the jumbo ones. I ended up using 4 jumbo ones and doubling the recipe for the rest of the ingredients. It filled one 9x13 pan.

Excellent basic biscotti! Sometimes the simple recipes turn out to be the tastiest.

My Amish Friend's Caramel Corn

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2009
This is so addictive! Very easy to make. The amount of topping is perfect for the amount of popcorn. Too often you are left with plain kernels, but this was not the case with this recipe.

Shrimp Linguine

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2009
This was restaurant quality even with the few "cheats" that I had to take cause of the ingredients I had / didn't have at home. I substituted dry spices for the fresh ones and milk mixed with a bit of flour for the cream. It was a bit too much garlic for us though, so I would cut this down for next time.

Chewy Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2009
Just made these and they are fantastic!! I added 1/4 cup more flour, 1/2 tsp more baking soda, and omitted the nuts (personal preference). They took longer than 12 min to bake, closer to 15 or so, so I would suggest watching them carefully after the 12 min mark. They do keep cooking a bit after taking them out of the oven, but they would have been too raw at the 12 min mark.

Cream of Pumpkin Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2009
Excellent easy to make soup. The bread is great even left as whole pieces and dunked for a more casual dinner. Very nice alternative to the traditional pumpkin soup flavours.

Caramel-Filled Chocolate Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2009
These have a great chocolate flavour, but are less "carmely" than I would have liked. I did not have a real problem with the rolo running out while baking, but I also froze them before rolling, just to be sure.

Pumpkin Maple Pie Supreme

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2009
This pie was great. I did use fresh pumpkin to use up some garden pumpkin. The maple flavour is a nice addition.

Ukrainian Red Borscht Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2009
I decided to try the recipe as is instead of trying to combine all of the review comments. I thought it was great! I can't claim to be a borscht expert, but my husband and I thought it was great. I doubled the recipe in a large pot and it turned out just fine.

Empire Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2009
These are great as is with the exception of adding more almond flavouring to the icing and needing more water to make the icing spreadable as well.

Cheesy Creamed Spinach

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2009
Really rich dish, so you don't need much of it per person. I halved the recipe and it worked out just fine.

One-Bite Pecan Pies

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2009
These are great and will be super cute on the Christmas dessert tray. I have frozen them in hopes that they make out just as well as butter tarts do frozen, don't see why not. I made them in little muffin/tart cups and they come right out of the paper. To drizzle the chocolate I used a Ziplock bag and cut a tiny hole in the bottom. Worked really well. I only used about 1/2 the chocolate though, so you can likely cut down on the melted chocolate if only drizzling.

Cherry Tomatoes Filled with Goat Cheese

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
These were a bit of work to put together (which is expected stuffing anything), but not fantastic in the end. The flavour is nice, but a bit bland even with the fresh basil.

Garlic Cheddar Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
I know others loved it and we love garlic and cheddar, but it just wasn't for us. I found the garlic too overpowering. Maybe cutting down on the garlic would help, but I will try other recipes instead.

Cherry Snowballs

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
I followed the recipe exactly and they were so easy to make. They rolled perfectly, baked evenly, and didn't crumble when rolling them in the coconut. I didn't need the whole amount of the frosting and coconut for rolling, so I would recommend a 3/4 batch and see how that goes. Better not to waste the ingredients.

Cinnamon-Roasted Almonds

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2009
I followed the tips from other reviewers (e.g. adding vanilla to the egg, adding more topping for more flavour, etc) and they were great. The house smelled wonderful while they cooked too!

Gingersnap Pumpkin Cream Tart

This is a great alternative to pumpkin pie and still gets all those "fall flavours".
