Joy's Prizewinning Trifle

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2009
I changed several things just because of what I had on hand. I substituted marscapone for the sour cream and frozen mixed berries for the strawberries and kiwi. I did as other reviewers and made the pudding according to the package adding a little extra vanilla and soaking the bananas in the pineapple juice. It took less than 10 minutes to put the entire thing together and it looks beautiful. The pudding mixture tasted amazing.

Apple Enchilada Dessert

Everyone loves this recipe. I don't measure out the cinnamon. I use the fresh ground cinnamon and just sprinkle some on each one. I am sure that I use over 1 tsp. I have tried this recipe using cherry, apple, strawberry, and blueberry. So far I haven't found one that doesn't taste good!

Better Than Sex Cake II

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2006
I made this for a group of friends and it was a big hit if you can go by the noises they were making while eating it! Like previous reviews, I used the end of a wooden spoon and poked holes in the cake and served it still warm from the oven.

Tiramisu Layer Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2006
I made this last night for and "Italian Dinner" with friends. It was absolutely wonderful. I made 2 of the layers with coffee and just one plain white layer. It was beautiful to look at and just as wonderful to eat. The only thing I did differently was instead of brewed coffee I just used the International Foods Hazlenut coffee since I could make just what I needed quickly. This is a definate keeper.

Cherry Cheese Pie I

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2006
I have been making this for years. I add a teaspoon of lemon juice and a teaspoon of vanilla to the mixture. A really good variation is to add crushed up oreo cookies or crushed up chocolate chip cookies. My father-in-law requests this every holiday.

One Two Three Sausage Balls

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2005
I have been making this recipe for years for any party that we have. It is always a big hit and never lasts long. I use the sage sausage or special seasoning sausage to give it more flavor. My suggestion for those saying that they are dry is that you must be overcooking them. No one has ever complained about them being dry before. If you really want to kick the recipe up a notch make a batch of "hot" ones using the hot sausage and then a batch of mild using the sage. I like that this recipe can be made in advance and then cooked at the last minute. It makes planning a party much easier.

Baked Ham

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2005
I followed the advice of others and rubbed down the ham with brown sugar before cooking. I will say that the ham was very tender and the taste was okay but not magnificent like I was expecting. Personally I did not like the color that the coca-cola gave the ham and neither did my children. It was very easy though and if it wasn't for the color I would give it more stars.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2005
This is very close to my pot roast recipe. I use a can of cream of onion or cream of celery soup in mine. Also, instead of the water, I use 2 cups of beef broth. The beef broth gives it a really good flavor. My roast typically cooks for about 20 hours and is so tender that it falls apart when you take it out. I use the leftover "juice" to make gravy. My family absolutely loves it.

Crab Croissant-wiches

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2005
I made this recipe for my annual New Year's party. They were gone almost as soon as I took them out of the oven and I even doubled the recipe. I do agree that it would be nice to have a way to make them smaller, but they are great either way.
