My favorite things to cook
I like to make appetizers and desserts. I'll make 5-course meals when it's just our family, but when entertaining guests, we opt for a plethora of appetizers and desserts. Makes for a casual evening of grazing and visiting and truly is a simpler way to have fun with friends.
My cooking triumphs
My husband absolutely abhors it when I try new recipies for the first time when we've invited company for the evening. He's so fearful I'll "bomb" and lose all our friends. "Trust me", I say. My oldest daughter graduated high school this past May. I wanted to have a little soiree after the ceremony so I invited about 30 friends and tried out 5 never before tried recipes (all from Allrecipes.com)for appetizers. What a hit! My husband bragged all night long how he had "washed his hands" of anything to do with the food and how great everything turned out. I was one proud cook and easily received the praise of my guests.
My cooking tragedies
When I was a Newlywed I wanted to impress my new husband with my microwave cooking skills. We had received a microwave bundt cake pan as a wedding gift so I thought I'd try a microwaved carrot cake. I followed the directions to the letter and was so disappointed when the cake refused to come out of the pan! I turned it upside down on top of a soda pop bottle and waited, and waited, after 3 days, it still hadn't "dropped". I was so upset and embarrassed, I picked up the cake, pan and all, and literally threw it out the front door while screaming, "Let the birds eat it!" Laughing, my husband said, "They can't - their beaks will break!"
