Tasty, easy to make. I sprinkled nutmeg over just before putting in oven.

Strawberry Cream Roll

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2011
Very tasty, not difficult. Bonus: it's good the next day, didn't seem to suffer for sitting in the refrigerator for 24 hours. The cake stuck to the greased waxed paper.

Pasta de Sardine

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2011
The lemon juice makes this dish! I never would have thought to use lemon juice, but it tasted really plain, blah, before adding it. Used inexpensive herring in hot tomato sauce, two cans for two servings (can says one serving per can).

Lemon Pie Bars

Pretty good. I'd like the lemon part to be thicker and the crust to be a little thinner. I used juice and zest of two lemons.

Spicy Creamy Cajun Ham and Black Eyed Peas Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2011
This dish is okay. Put sour cream on anything and it's going to be pretty good. I did substitute carrot for celery because that's what I had on hand.

Cherry Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2010
Pretty good. I baked the cake in 8-inch pan (3 inches deep) and it turned out not very tall, so I suspect that it would have made a VERY flat 9-inch square cake. I wish the recipe specified the weight of cherries rather than the volume. I used an entire 16-oz package of frozen cherries, which measured one and a half cups after halving and thawing; seems like a lot of cherries since that package of frozen cherries measures almost three cups when frozen. I might make this again.

Vinegar Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2010
Very disappointing. Tastes just like a bite of baking soda. I'd thought I could trust the ratings (I took luscious punch and jalapeno popper spread to parties without trying them first - they were great), but these are for a funeral lunch tomorrow and I'm afraid I'll have to purchase cookies in the morning.

Orange-Fruit Nut Truffles

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2010
Pretty good treats. Truffles is a funny name, though, since these are NOT light and fluffy. I used plain prunes and zest of an entire orange. They're sticky, so I rolled them in powdered sugar (still sticky, but more attractive).

Elegant Mushroom Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2010
Good. I used vegetable broth. Measured carefully the first batch then estimated for the second batch the following day. Good way to use up a bunch of mushrooms.

Plum Blueberry Upside Down Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2009
Delicious, moist, nice texture. Sweetness of the cake offsets tartness of plums. Made exactly according to recipe except no blueberries. Half of the plums stuck to the pan, but the cake still looked good.

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2009
Delicious. Used 1/2 cup oil, 1/2 cup applesauce, 2 cups canned pumpkin (from larger can), only 2 cups sugar, and several handfuls of walnut halves. I greased the pans and used waxed paper cut to the size of the bottom of the pan - came out neatly. UPDATE 2 weeks later: I've made this three times now, once with not so much pumpkin (ran out) and extra applesauce to make up the difference - turned out well. I'll use only 1/4 t. cloves next time.
