About this Cook
Hello AR friends... my name is Tracie, I live in a small town in Minnesota about hour north of Minneapolis. Have a house with 4 1/2 acres, a nice big veggie garden in summer (love it)I am a single mother of two, a son who is 15 (andy) and a daughter (nicole) who is 18 and graduates this year :( where does the time go?!! i was a mom at a young age and have raised my children mostly on my own, with no help. There has not been alot of time for me to cook or money for "good" food. My kids are older now, and i'm ready to spend more time doing what i like to do, cook! i do like to bake also. i work at a law firm during the week, and a second job at a liquor store on saturdays. it's been a tough life, but my kids are what i live for.
My favorite things to cook
i love to cook things that my kids like. they are picky too which makes it hard. mostly, quick, easy, fast meals. slow cooker, mexican, italian, etc. :)
My favorite family cooking traditions
no traditions, as of yet. although my daughter loves grammas "kifle" cookies that are a hungarian tradition in my family (gramma/grandpa came from hungary). so, this christmas, i requested the recipe for Kifle and am planning to make soon. It is a moon shaped cookie with dough on the outside, filling inside consists of walnuts and sugar, etc. can't wait to have some traditions to pass on!
My cooking triumphs
i dont know about triumphs, but anytime i make something both kids like, it's a triumph in my book :)
My cooking tragedies
haven't had too many tragedies.. haven't burnt the house down yet :) woot woot

Beefy Baked Ravioli
was awesome!!! did add half onion/2 cloves garlic with the meat (added 2 links italian sausage w/ ground beef). added salt, pepper, and oregano to meat. doubled the raviolis and used a regular size jar of meat speg. sauce. was very good. had garlic bread sticks and caesar salad. my son said it was better than olive garden! mmmm.

Chantal's New York Cheesecake
Not good...not good at all. first of all, the crust was way too thick, i used the recomended amount of graham crackers and the crust was twice as thick as it should have been and yes..i used a 9 inch spring form pan that i bought for my daughter's bday as she requested cheesecake and i had never made one before. the top was brown, yes, brown, and it cracked (which i didnt care about that) but the worst part was the taste, it didnt even taste good. not good at all, thick and pasty with no flavor. i ended up buying a cheesecake from our local bakery and it was delicous. i dont know what i did wrong when making this. i would really like to know.
