Candied Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2010
I've made the sweet potatoes for Thanksgiving for the last 5 years and I've finally found a recipe that is a keeper!!!! I only gave 4 stars because I felt there was too much sauce. Next year I will either make less sauce or add more sweet potatoes. Also, way more than 3 cups of marshmallows are needed. The 2 cups for the sauce are fine, but way more than 1 cup is needed to top the dish.

Self-Filled Cupcakes I

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2010
I've made these cupcakes several times now and have found the only way for me to get the filling in the center is to use a pipping bag. When I tried to follow the directions I ended up with the filling being swirled in on the top of the cupcake. Now I fill the liners with the cake mix and use a pipping bag to get the cream cheese into the center. Works great and the these cupcakes are soooo good it is worth the extra effort!

Golden Sweet Cornbread

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2010
I followed this recipe exactly and it was the best cornbread I have had in a long time. Fresh out of the oven with butter and honey was divine! This will be my cornbread recipe from now on!

Chocolate Chip Banana Bread II

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2010
This really is the moistest banana bread ever! I'm not giving the recipe 5 stars for two reasons: 1) The shortening. I did what almost every other reviewer did and sub'd butter. 2) There's no "seasoning" per se. I added 1 tsp vanilla, 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1/4 tsp nutmeg. The result was wonderful. I will be using this recipe from now on. Next time I might take another reviewer's suggestion and make mini loaves or muffins because it is a little difficult to cut.

Breaded Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2010
Very good. This was the first time I had fixed/eaten brussels sprouts and they were so yummy. Make sure to keep an eye on them when they're under the broiler, they go from done to burnt very quickly.

Garlic Parmesan Orzo

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2010
So good. Very cheesy and garlicy. I loved it. I don't mince my garlic. I use a garlic press and used 3 cloves. I skipped the parsley since I didn't have any and I didn't miss it.

Dawn's Candied Walnuts

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2010
So Good! 2 suggestions: 1 - make sure you cook the walnuts long enough, I had never baked nuts before and the first time I made these I didn't bake the walnuts long enough. If your not sure, take them out, let them cool, and then taste to make sure they're done. 2 - If you don't have a candy thermometer make sure to check often for soft ball stage, the difference between soft ball and hard ball is only 30 seconds to a minute.

Thai-Style Peanut Sauce with Honey

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2009
Great sauce. Only a few minor adjustments to make it perfect for my taste. Since I was going to eat very soon after making it I cut the vinegar in half and I also added about an extra tablespoon of peanut butter. If you decided not to add the tablespoon of crunchy peanut butter then I would suggest you add 2 extra tablespoons.

Double Layer Pumpkin Cheesecake

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2008
I love this recipe. I made it for two family gatherings over Thanksgiving and got rave reviews both times. The only thing I did different than the recipe was take out more than a cup of the plain cheesecake batter for the bottom layer. I probably did 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 of a cup to get a little thicker bottom layer.

Chicken and Broccoli Braid

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2008
I made this recipe for dinner tonight and my husband and I thought it was really yummy. I did however make a few changes. Since we are veggie people I added a little less chicken than the recipe and then added chopped, fresh carrots, celery, green bell pepper, and califlower. I thought it was incredible yummy with all the wonderful veggie flavors mixed with the cheese and chicken. This is a keeper!

Vegetarian's Delight Pizza

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2008
I thought this recipe was a good basic veggie pizza recipe. Nothing to fancy and easy to add to depending on what you like. I tried it with a whole wheat crust and thought that was a little dry so I will use a regular crust next time. Also, I used homemade marinara sauce and this added just a little bit of heat to the pizza.

Baklava

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
I made this last night for my New Year's Eve party and it was a big hit! It was flaky and crisp on top, soft and moist (without being gooey) on the inside. The only thing I did different was make the sauce while I was assembling the baklava, that way the sauce was cool when I poured it over the hot baklava. I will be making this for years to come. Thanks!

Candied Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2007
These sweet potatoes were really yummy but the sauce never thickened up. I added more brown sugar as suggested and removed the skillet from the heat after but the sauce was still really runny. While they tasted good I think I will keep looking for another sweet potatoe recipe.

Hot Artichoke and Spinach Dip II

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2007
I give this recipe a 5 star rating because I followed the directions exactly and it was fantastic. I made it on Thanksgiving while everyone was waiting for dinner to be ready and it was gone in minutes. I served it on a soft baugette.
