Mahogany Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2012
These are really good. I don't even marinate them, I just put them in the oven on a tin foil covered baking sheet. When they start getting done I turn them and baste them several time with the sauce. I don't keep molasses or fresh ginger, so I use 1/2 cup brown sugar in place of the molasses and powdered ginger in place of fresh. Then I put a couple of drops of tobassco for a tiny little spice. The is one of my most requested recipes for game day!

Precious Pineapple Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2010
Everyone loved this cake. I didn't even get a chance to put icing on it. I baked it in a 9 X 13 pan. It was very crumbly but my teenage kids and their friends didn't seem to care! They just ate it right out of the pan. They sometime request me to make it when they are at my house. I am not sure what to do to make it hold together better. I did use crushed pinneapple in heavy syrup, so maybe that was my problem. Heck, I think I might make the cake tonight and take it to work with me tomorrow!!

Skillet Pork Chops with Potatoes and Onion

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2010
Dang this is good! The only change I made was that I finished cooking in the oven, 350 degrees for 40 minutes.

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2010
Good simple recipe. I cooked in the oven in a heavy oven proof pot with lid. 400 degree for 30 minutes then 200 degrees for 4 hours. I believe it was a 3-4 lb pork tenderloin cut in half. Added 10 gloves of garlic to root beer. After taking out of oven I drained the pork, shreded it and served with a Carolina style sweet barbecue sauce.

Blueberry Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2010
This is really good and oh sooo moist! I used 1 1/4 c. white sugar and 1 1/4 c. light brown sugar, which was 1/4 c. more sugar than the recipe called for. I cut the cinnamon to 1 tsp, which I thought was plenty. I didn't have any mini loaf pans so I baked in two bread pans. Wasn't sure what to make a topping of, so I just sprinkled a little brown sugar on top.I had to bake longer than 50 minutes, but I lost track of how much longer. I just kept testing it with a toothpick untill it seemed done liked a cake. The blueberries and zucchini sounded like a odd combo, but was supprisingly good.

Salisbury Steak

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2010
I followed the steak part of the recipe but when I made the gravy I did not like the ketchup taste at all. So I tossed out the gravy and just browned sliced onions in the pan and made gravy from scratch. It turned out very good in the end. The steak part was very flavorful and I will use that part of the recipe again.

Peach Cobbler II

Reviewed: Feb. 17, 2010
I have a very good easy peach cobbler recipe but wanted to try this one because addding the boiling water was interesting. I had 3 small cans of sliced peaches in heavy syrup, so that is what I used. I drained the peaches reserving enought to use in place of the water. So I used 1 cup of boiling heavy syrup in place of 2 cups of boiling water. I added the ground cinnamon to the syrup. I cut the sugar to one cup for the peaches but still used 1 cup for the flour/sugar mixture. I could have cut the sugar even further because it was Very sweet. I cooked it a 9 X 13 pan for at least 1 hour 15 minuted. It was pretty darn dark but not burned. It was really good but a little too sweet. The bottom of the cobbler was gooey, more like a peach pie filling and the bread part of the cobbler was nice and tender with a crunchy top. Everyone loved it!

Slider-Style Mini Burgers

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2010
We tried this tonight. My son and husband liked it alot, I thought it was just pretty good. I put half the mixture on Pepperidge Farms Slider Buns and half on the small sweet dinner rolls. All three of us like the small sweet dinner rolls better.

Strawberry and Feta Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2010
I believe I liked this more than any other salad recipe that I have tried on this site. I didn't have any raspberry vinegar so I used salad vinegar and 3TBS cherry jam. We don't like almonds so we subed toasted chopped pecans. I can't wait to take this to a party!!!

Grandma's Chicken Noodle Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2010
This is a good recipe. I cooked ingredients in a different order than written. Made my own broth, cooked chicken breast and thigh with seasonings. Removed chicken from broth(to let cool and to cube or shred) then added celery, onion, and carrots to broth, when veggies were almost done I added noodles. Cooked noodles according to doness preferred then added constarch and cubed chicken.

Butterscotch Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2009
We don't like butterscotch so I didn't use any bs chips. Only used 1 1/2 cup dark brown sugar(thats all I had). We also added chopped honeycrisp apples and golden raisins that we had sauted in the melted butter for a about 1 to 2 minutes. I could tell that this was going to be a great basic recipe for bread pudding. It would have also been good without the apples and raisins.

Cheddar Buttermilk Biscuits

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2009
These biscuits are sooo good! I have been experimenting with biscuit recipes a LOT this past month. I have tried at least 20 different biscuit recipes and most of them looked great but did not have much flavor. But, these were really good. I mainly followed the recipe but added 1tsp of garlic powder and an extra 1/4 sharp cheddar cheese. After cutting the (salted)butter in with my fingers, so that there were dime size slivers of butter, I put in the freezer and let it rest about 7-8 minutes. I kneaded just like the recipe suggested. Do not use a insulated pan, it will not get hot fast enough to bake biscuits.

Great recipe! Next time I will cook a 3rd or 4th brisket to share with friends or to take to work. We had it for dinner and then snacked on it all night. Followed the recipe exactly.
