I am a marine corp brat. Born in California, lived there 14 years off and on, moved to the east coast, North Carolina for another 11 years and now living in Texas for 21 years. I am a professional working mom (of 3)& grandmother (of 8). I have been cooking since I was fourteen or so about 33 years. I have had to change some of the ways I cook as I had a heart attack and a quadruple bypass 7 months ago. I am always trying to find new ways to cook chicken, fish and very lean beef. I fry very rarely, if at all. We love TexMex food and good ole' southern cooking, But I am always willing to try other cusines. I have had to change the way I cook for the most part, more sautes, grilling, baking or roasting, slow cooker, etc.
My favorite things to cook
Casseroles, Pot roasts, Soups & stews, Grill steaks, chicken, firm flesh fish. Meatloaf - my stepson's first request when he came home from the Army! I love to bake and make up new deserts. I just love to cook and make people happy with my cooking. My four year old grandson, Avery, walks in my house and the first thing he says is "I am hungry MEME!" (I think he is always hungry!)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Beef stew/soup, Potatoe soup, Pot Roast w/veggies, Breaded Pork Chops, Mashed Potatoes, Smothered Burritos, Enchiladas, Lasagna, Tuna Noodle Casserole (my kids love it!), Tacos, Banana Pudding (this is a must bring at every family get together), homemade chocalate pie, Peanutbutter Cookies, Chocalate Chip cookies, Snickerdoodles, newest dessert is my Pumpkin Torte this past Thanksgiving - will make again it was great, almost better than pumpkin pie.
My cooking triumphs
Too many to count!!! You try other peoples receipes and put your own spin on them to accomadate the likes and dislikes of your own family and tastes. And Try, Try again and again until you get a receipe the way you like it.
My cooking tragedies
My first pot of chicken and dumplings at the age of 18 just first married it turned out to be a pot of chicken paste, I did not add enough water or broth and it was a mess. My husband was in the Marines, I was pregnant with our first child, so when he came home I told him I had been too tired to cook (I got rid of the evidence before he come home) and had him take me out to dinner!
