About this Cook
I have ived in South Carolina all my life, and I love it here! I was born and raised in Spartanburg, but have been living in Columbia for the past 5 years. I'm happily unmarried to a wonderful man and we have 2 rambuncious boys. Cooking has been a huge part of my life. I come from a family of great "down-home" cooks. My three hungry boys keep me on my toes when it comes to dinner time. So, I'm always coming up with new recipes and creative ways to get them to eat their veggies!
My favorite things to cook
chicken-n-dumplings, pork loin, my dad's asian rib bites, thanksgiving dinner, christmas snackies, and italian dishes. (so far)
My favorite family cooking traditions
It's a tie between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Thanksgiving is always at my Grandma's house, and the food is sooo good. Everyone brings a dish, so sometimes it can get a little competitive between us women. Christmas is the best, because on Christmas Eve we put a big ham in the oven and slow cook it all night. That is my favorite smell, Christmas morning - hot, homemade biscuits, juicy, buttery ham, and a REAL Christmas tree.
My cooking tragedies
When I was 12, I decided that I would grill hamburgers. I had never grilled anything! So, I put the charcoal in our Webber grill, poured on the lighter fluid, and fired it up. I went back into the kitchen to get the perfect patties I had prepared, and immediately threw them on the flaming grill. I didn't know I was supposed to let the flame go down and wait for the briquets to turn gray. I was so proud of myself, until my Dad took a bite of my "gasoline burgers", which he immediatly spit out. At first my feelings were hurt. Afterwards, my Dad gave me a lesson in "grilling 101".
