About this Cook
I've only been cooking for about 6 years, about a year after I got married. My husband and I moved from North Carolina at about the same time, and I'm sure that's what really made me start cooking... being 2500 miles from your entire family will do that to you! But now I love to cook, and I have to say I'm getting pretty good at it, with the help of Allrecipes of course!
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook vegetable dishes and soups, and this past Christmas I really enjoyed baking cookies for our friends! I also love to try different pastas. Recently I have found that I really love to cook fish dishes which I've never been really good at, but I'm getting better fast!
My favorite family cooking traditions
During the summer months when I still lived at home with my parents and sister, we would always make our own pizza. It became a huge deal and it was always so much fun! We would end up making 3 pizzas, all with different toppings. Also, when my sis and I were kids, every Christmas Eve night we would make cookies for Santa. We've got alot of pictures and wonderful memories of those times!
My cooking triumphs
Actually, when I moved away to college my future husband and I were just good friends then living in the same city. One night I decided I wanted a pineapple upside down cake, and at that time I really didn't know how to cook but I was determined I wanted that cake (even though I'd never made one before)!! So, after much toiling and worry, Mike (my now husband) and I decided that that was the best cake either of us had ever had!!! That was my very first cooking triumph!
My cooking tragedies
While living at home, (I'm not sure when, but I'm pretty sure I had already graduated from high school) I was trying to boil water for something, I don't even remember what for now. The problem was I was using a GLASS dish. Mom and Dad were in the living room and it's a good thing that I had gone to the sink for something because all of a sudden, BOOM! The dish, of course, exploded. Scared the you know what out of all of us. After my parents realized I was okay, we couldn't stop laughing. I started joking, "I don't even know how to boil water!" I really was a late bloomer when it came to cooking!

Italian Sausage Soup
Delicious! I added an onion while browning the meat, and added some cheese tortellini right at the end. My 18 month old loved it! Definitely making this again!

I have to say, this is one of the best cakes that my husband and I have ever had. It's perfect.

Warm Sweet Potato Salad
I had to leave out the red onion because I didn't have any, but followed the recipe other than that. It was good warm, but it was great cold! The flavors really had time to meld, and I don't think that it needed the red onions after all, it was "oniony" enough. Next time I make this I'm going to try it with just the sweet potatoes ,yummy!
