Warm Apple Buttermilk Custard Pie

I found this recipe in Southern Living magazine at least 6 or 7 years ago and it has been on my Thanksgiving dessert table ever since. The custard filling is good to use in apple crisp too, in the apples under the crust.

Fluffy Peanut Butter Frosting

I used this recipe to fill a number of cakes that I decorated for others and haven't got a complaint yet! If you use cream in it, it will stiffen up on you, since this is the nature of cream anyway. Half and half works beautifully if you are looking for that extra creaminess. Tastes amazing when you fill a chocolate fudge cake with it.
