The Amazing Miracle of Life in an RV

First, I have to say that it's been forever since I have utilized my blog over here...WHEW! How's everybody been?
Second, I'll not say most, but a lot of you, used to read my blog when I first started blogging here. I moved my blog to my own site and haven't looked back and it's been steadily growing by leaps and bounds and each and every day I am grateful for each and every person who has supported me throughout the years. It's been quite the trip. I'm still cooking my way around the world, I just finished up Nicaragua, my 69th country. I've met several others that are doing the same project as I am, each of us with our own unique twist. I've learned tons. I am now writing for our local newspaper The Valley Bugler a monthly column called, what else, Life in an RV and I am on my second run of being an Allrecipes Allstar. It's just a fancy way to say that we are a group of cooks who are up to monthly activities and challenges...nothing major, it just beats the every day norm.
I've also created a private group on Facebook based on Life in an RV and we are over 170 members and going strong. We talk about everything in there from every day situations to international cooking. As a matter of fact, a lot of the old AR people can be found right there in witchywoman's Life in an RV. I wanted to post this blog because, being the administrator of that page, I see quite a few amazing things unfold right on my computer screen. As a matter of fact, yesterday I saw the biggest miracle happen and it was really heart-warming.
About 3/4 of the members of Life in an RV on Facebook are also AR members. Thursday evening, one the Peeps of the Page, as I call them, posted that they were right at the edge of being evicted with a young child. What I saw that followed was absolutely nothing short of a miracle. EVERYONE came together in thought, prayer, good juju, or whatever you want to call it and we were able to raise over $1000 to ensure this family would remain in their home. It was an Amazing Miracle!! This is a testament to the fact that there are some truly amazing, giving souls here on AllRecipes and I'm just fortunate enough to be friends with them all...
So, I'm saying it out loud, right here on the site that started it all...YOU ALL KICKED SOME @SS YESTERDAY AND I AM HUMBLED AND PROUD TO CALL EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU MY FRIEND!!
Peace!

You are right! It was a miracle. Glad I was able to witness it. :-)

Jan. 21, 2012 9:54 am
I know, right? Crazy amazing...I'm glad I got to see it!

Jan. 21, 2012 9:58 am
And it just happened in a day!

Jan. 21, 2012 10:00 am
Less than a day, Kat...it was so cool to watch!

Jan. 21, 2012 10:04 am
You always hear the term, "Food warms the soul"...well, in this case (what happened yesterday on the FB group), Food did indeed warm the soul. I too, was amazed at not only how QUICKLY members acted, but how supportive and positive everyone was. A group of people initially brought together to "share recipes" turned into a powerful force against seemingly impossible odds!

Jan. 21, 2012 10:04 am
Bless you all for that - how wonderful!

Jan. 21, 2012 10:09 am
hi witchy! so good to see you back here! 69th county...wow, girl ua here at ar have missed some great and i'm sure interesting ideas! as far as i know, claire and i are still coming out to port angeles in early august. oh...you are a natural born writer, congrats on the newspaper column and i hope bob is doing well! we miss you gal!!

Jan. 21, 2012 10:09 am
Man, I still have goosebumps from it! I think that is the true meaning of community, for real!

Jan. 21, 2012 10:10 am
I'm sorry, but, after seeing how that all turned out, I want to share it with everyone...I didn't do much, I just started the page...but watching all of you was (and I know I keep using this word) amazing!

Jan. 21, 2012 10:13 am
Gary, I miss your face, too! I just friended Claire on FB...I'll send her a private message with my phone number...as long as finances allow it, I'm still tossing that idea around of a PNW get together...I'm thinking a huge camping trip would be awesome...I'm just not a hotel-restaurant type of person...bonfires, guitars and brews...that's how I roll!

Jan. 21, 2012 10:36 am
I didn't do it...all the cool people from AR banded together and did it...all I did was create a group about 8 months ago not thinking that anything of this caliber would ever happen. It's just a testament to the spirit of a community that started right here on AR.

Jan. 21, 2012 1:39 pm
Food unites! AR is a good corner of this world. :) Thanks for sharing with us WW.

Jan. 21, 2012 1:43 pm
One of the greatest things I have witnessed. What a truly great group of people! All led by the lady in the 5th wheel! I'm in for a camping trip, and I know Melissa will be too. You couldn't keep us away!! I'll bring extra wood! And brews!

Jan. 21, 2012 1:54 pm
What I witnessed was life as it should be!! Everyone pulled together to do what they could to help. It took a leap of faith for many to get involved but each person took that leap willingly. Kudos to those that gave their support in any way, shape or form!!

Jan. 21, 2012 2:16 pm
Thanks so much, BN! Toni Jo...hmmm...you, me, Missa=trouble with a capital "T"! Virginia Mom...you truly are a gem and I'm proud to call you my friend! xoxoxo

Jan. 21, 2012 2:54 pm
Such a great group! Amazing! XOXO

Jan. 21, 2012 2:56 pm

Jan. 21, 2012 2:58 pm
Great job! And trilled that you came back to let us kow! I love reading you blogs and funness in life! Keep it going.

Jan. 21, 2012 3:00 pm
Goes to show you can never under estimate the power of the people that you,WW, brought together. What more is there to say :)

Jan. 21, 2012 3:02 pm
Don't blame me, Cat...LOL! I just started the group!! Thanks, SueC...nice to see you again, too! I've never been gone, I've always been around and probably will pop up from time to time when something super cool like this happens. It's too cool not to be shared with the AR community!

Watching the whole thing unfold all day about the gift of giving for our fellow foodie...was awesome!! I think I spent part of the day in tears for her. I'm soo glad, that all was able to help and crossing fingers for more blessed things to come for her and her family and to all that paid it forward.

Jan. 21, 2012 3:23 pm
I tell ya...by the time that was over, I was seriously worn out, physically (from the stress of hoping she would be all right) and emotionally! And at the end, it was just an awesome feeling to have been able to watch that unfold! True humanitarianism stuff, in my book, I don't care how big the amount was...or if just watching the posts of members saying prayers or sending good thoughts...everybody who matters in my book was on those 3 posts and we were cheering on the same thing! It was fantastic!!

Jan. 21, 2012 3:46 pm
That is a wonderful thing to do. I admit I don't follow any AR people on FB, but I would have enjoyed seeing that unfold.

Jan. 21, 2012 3:52 pm
I don't follow anyone either...LOL! We all came together in this group because we don't take life too seriously and we all like to cook...it's a pretty good gig!

Jan. 21, 2012 3:57 pm
So many good, generous people in this world! God bless 'em! Wish we didn't have to always hear about the worst ones in the media. Keep up the great work Witchywoman!

Jan. 21, 2012 4:11 pm
WW,you show true humility, and genuine love. I believe It's what I recognized in you when I met you on AR when I joined. I too have missed you & your container gardenening, the photos, the rundowns on the countries,et al. Why I've even begun to enlarge my brain cells to go farther out in space cell land (otherwise known as nerotransmitters) to go on FB and whatever to locate whatever might be free enterprise for decent comunication, what about that for an old lady? That's reachchin', but better than just squeechin, I say.As I say to my kids & grandkids,"Ya did gooood!"

Jan. 21, 2012 4:17 pm
It is truly a blessing to watch what happened and I am so proud to call each and every one of you a friend!

Jan. 21, 2012 4:21 pm
Cricket...there is no way on Earth that I trade you for anything!! You make me crack up on a daily basis and that, my dear, dear friend, is good for the soul...green grass & high tides for you, doll...and, would you hurry up and harvest those stripper cops on FV???????

Jan. 21, 2012 4:22 pm
Rosesong, that is why I agreed to write for The Valley Bugler www.valleybugler.com They don't write about all the depressing stuff. There's the link, you'd have to see for yourself...I really like my new writing gig with them!

Jan. 21, 2012 4:24 pm
Or you can follow me on my blog...I'm on there at least once a week if not more. http://lifeinanarv.blogspot.com

Jan. 21, 2012 4:27 pm
A & A...it's nice to see you again, too...I hope all is well! My container garden was featured in April 2011 in Trailblazer magazine, center spread article called "Diggin' It"...it was pretty cool! As for saying that I did good, I don't know about all that, I did what I felt was right and it seems to be headed that way...who knows where life's journey will take you and I'm just diggin' the experiences along the way. In the end, that's all we really have anyway...nothing else really matters.

Jan. 21, 2012 5:00 pm
Bob lived for years and years in Sequim...it's a cool little town, but I'd prefer PA.

Jan. 21, 2012 5:09 pm
How Awesome is that?! I don't do Facebook so I am glad you shared it here, Laurrie. Warms my heart to hear what happened. I will add my wishes of peace and blessings to that family. And I will add lots of big hugs to you for providing the forum for it all. Miss you girl.... OH!!!!! and CONGRATULATIONS on the article writing! It is about time it got picked up somewhere! Good for you!

Jan. 21, 2012 5:17 pm

Jan. 21, 2012 5:27 pm
Ok, you were in La Push itself...Mora is off to the NW of there. And, FYI, in August...you ain't gonna need no long underwear here!

Jan. 21, 2012 5:29 pm
WFDM...I'm ok where I'm at, as far as writing, for the moment...I'm toying around with a few other ideas...if they work, they work, if they suck, they suck...but at least I tried...that's my motto!

I like it when miracles happen! I'm glad you were part of the process!

Jan. 21, 2012 5:38 pm
I've seen a few, sueb, but nothing like this one!! I'm glad I got to be a part of it, too!

Jan. 21, 2012 7:19 pm
A call went out for help. A loving, caring gal, responded quickly and the miracles began to unfold. The drama was powerful and prayers (and juju, ww!) were heard and answered. It left you with a sense of belonging, and a true warm and fuzzy that still lingers. We saw it, we felt the warmth of coming together, the ideas of where to go for further assistance. The recipient of the helping hands was shown that she is not alone. The wagons were circled and peace ruled the day! Good people abound. you just have to know them when you see them. Yesterday, they were in abundance!!

Jan. 21, 2012 8:06 pm
I completely missed this, this happened on your FB page, Laurrie? Whatever and whoever, it doesn't surprise me that these folks jumped right in to lend a hand, such a loving and giving bunch of people. Heartwarming to hear of this, thanks for posting this blog!

Jan. 22, 2012 1:47 am
Oh it truly was a miracle unfolding, wasn't it? I think the whole gambit of emotions was gone through! The generosity and love were so amazingly overwhelming...but, I'll tell you one thing: with this group, the one thing it wasn't was surprising :)

Jan. 22, 2012 4:02 am
It was really quite nail-biting at the time, I must say. But it did prove that PayPal is the business! Well-done everyone!

Jan. 22, 2012 5:07 am
Yes...you all did good, what more can I say?

Jan. 22, 2012 5:10 am
Wyatt...I have a private group on FB...that's where this happened. I'm going to have my right-hand-woman create a document of the posts and I'm taking them down off the page...the who and where does not matter, what matters is how incredibly quickly a group of friends that started right here on AR acted to save a friend that was in need!

Jan. 22, 2012 5:44 am
SouthernGma, Puck and my dear Second Husband...I would not trade any of you for any amount of money...NOPE!

The support given to the family is what we should be trying to do. Trouble is, most people don't let you know what is going on so you and others can help. Glad your "team" puled through!

I just happened to run across this story, not only of this fantastic act of kindness, but you cooking your way around the world. I am 28 with a 7 year old and a 2 year old, both daughters. They are my life!! However, cooking is also a huge part of my life and they are often my "little kitchen helpers"! I have often wondered and wished I could cook for a living. What you are doing is such a huge inspiration to me and I how or why I ran across your story is nothing short of amazing! Thank you for sharing!! If you can can share any helpful info or suggestions, I would love to hear!

Jan. 26, 2012 7:27 am
justbeingme...pop onto my blog at http://lifeinanarv.blogspot.com That's probably the best way to get in touch with me...there are links to catch up with me on FB, Twitter or Pinterest...if you want to send me a FB friend request, just attach a message letting me know who you are here and I can add you into the group...if you need any help or suggestions, one of the Peeps of the Page will be on it to help you out! If you need to catch me, early mornings on FB are best, otherwise, I have 2 wonderful adminstrators who keep the ball rolling for me. I'll talk to you soon!

Jan. 26, 2012 7:28 am
And, just to clarify, I don't cook for a living, I write...I just get to write about cooking, so I'm cool with all that!

Hi WW- Long time since I've heard from you. Yesterday's miracle sounds amazing... I am always happy to hear when something good happens and AR peeps had a role in it! I've made the mistake of taking up quilting and so my cooking interests have waned a bit. I'm glad I caught your blog tonight. You have been so busy with your writing and it has payed off! Congratulations on all your achievements. And to think we knew you back when you had us all vote for which country you were going to make a meal from!

Hey WW, good to see you here! When I saw your blog I had to come inside and see what you're up to now. Congrats on all you've accomplished and good luck in all you do!

Jan. 27, 2012 6:57 am
Rohnda...LOL! I STILL have you all vote for which country I'm going to cook from, some things will never change. I just cooked from my 70th country, Brazil, last night. Lace...I wish you had Facebook!! It is really great to see you, too and I will call you one of these...I know I'm sporadic, but I get so much going on that it makes me dizzy at times. You both stop by http://lifeinanarv.blogspot.com Would love to see you over there!

Jan. 27, 2012 9:38 am
Wow, Witchy! Just thought of you yesterday and was going to check your blog and my mouse malfunctioned (died). Glad to see your post here!

Jan. 27, 2012 9:26 pm
WW Catchin' up I wrote for our local paper on gardening my way almost a year. I ncluded many personal notes learned through years of "green" and organic scientific experimenting testing. I was given boxes of Mother Earth mags I inhaled . I was not a master gardener, and I wrote with humor and the style of a journal writer, which my editor and other writers loved, but we have a plethora of master gardeners in this area. They write with authority, I ,and those who were my editors went elsewhere. They went to other papers, me I do art work, aand write here on occassion, I love to express thoughts, feelings, and meanings in words as expressions of what is real, based on something to hang onto, proof of security, the brain+evidence=study=a start keep going It' great, this earth is full of great evidence of a great desinger, also a great imposter. WW,the times have worsened the prolems for those of us unable to deal with themso well. I myself wehn I was a teenager, long before I found out I suffer from Bipolar disorder, tried to take my life 5 different times, 5 different ways. Obiously I din't succeed. I can tell you tho, I have come to know many who have tho, sad to say. My own daughter tried when she was 13,she didn't either.Bipolar runs in our family, we take medication, are very cognizant of taking care of ourselves, and have a strong support group. I have a stroung desire to help young people become aware of sources of support andawareness of their own limitations as wellas discovering their strenths and developing social graciousness that allows them to feel at home withh all earth's inhabitants and develop a sense of caring for their domain of space and not have to be a burden, or burden to themself. A big effort? Yep!But it is bein accomplished, liitle by little. The time is ahead when there will be no sickness, and suicide is part of a sickness

Jan. 28, 2012 6:45 am
irayd8...I've missed seeing you! How've you been? If you're on FB, look me up! Am&Ad: unfortunately, I know about suicide all to well...we just dealt with that last July with Bob's brother. All we can hope is that he's at peace and that my mom is up there kicking his @ss! LOL! He had a lot of depression and drank way too much and it happened. It's a d@mn tragedy. We're ok, it's Bob's mom who bore the brunt of it, and we just make sure she's ok on a daily basis...what else can you do? Suicide cannot be understood. We will never understand the demons that haunted Bryan. All we can do is hope that he is at peace. :( I'm glad that you were able to get a handle on it and that you have a support group. That's really important. Peace to you, my friend!

About Me
I've been married to my husband for over 8 years. My husband is a cancer survivor. We live in SW Washington state by Mt. St. Helens, but I'm originally from Forks, the little town made famous by the Twilight movies. My blog is called Baked Lava www.bakedlava.com and I'm currently cooking my way around the world. I write a monthly column for our local newspaper called Life in an RV and that site is www.valleybugler.com. I've had my blog featured in Trailblazer Magazine. I love my recycled container garden and I love to create new recipes. I rarely follow a recipe to the letter, unless it involves baking. My husband & I don't have children unless you count the 4-legged variety...we have 4 of those: Puppa, Sasha, KiKi & Super Dave the Girl Cat. I am a prize-winning nature photographer.
My favorite things to cook
I don't have really a favorite thing to cook, per say...I'm not afraid to cook anything. I've recently taught myself how to can and make bread. I still have no great love of making cookies. I'm getting very well-versed in worldwide cuisine, as I'm cooking my way around the world. I love to create new recipes and rarely, anymore, do I have one that flops, but it does and will happen...the road to hell was paved with good intentions, or so they say. My favorite cuisine in this worldwide culinary adventure has been, so far, Belgium...fantastic food! I also am partial to Vietnamese, Korean, Azerbaijani and Hungarian cuisine...and Middle Eastern food kicks @ss!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite family cooking tradition is the weekly international meals that I prepare. The tradition is that my blog readers choose what country they would like to see from week to week and I cook an entire meal for 4 people with a budget of $20. Right now I am in the middle of my "Austerity" project where we are solely eating from the freezers and cupboards...you really have to creative to do this and I am making up recipes as I go...I have used a few AR recipes and credit back to them, though.
My cooking triumphs
I've had several of my original recipes published, I've had my blog featured in a magazine, I now write a monthly food column based on my blog for our local newspaper and I'm already one year into my cooking venture of Around the World in an RV. I am a Food Buzz featured publisher, I'm on PetitChef, RecipesUS and Foodista among many, many other cooking websites. I guess it's safe to say that due to my cooking, I have now ventured into the world of food blogging and into a smaller group of us fellow global food bloggers and I've made some amazing friends.
My cooking tragedies
There have been several and there aren't enough characters in the 1000 allotted to list them all down!
