Caldo de Res (Mexican Beef Soup)

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2010
This recipe is excellent, very authentic! Authentic Caldo de Res is not supposed to be spicy. I used 3 lbs. of beef shank and boiled it for about 4 hours until it fell off the bones. Then I scooped out the bones and trimmed most of the fat. I sauted 2 cloves of chopped garlic with the onion and added about 1/2 teaspoon of cumin. I used small ears of frozen corn and skipped the chayote and used 3 potatoes. Next time I think I will throw in a zucchini. I served this with warm flour tortillas, some Mexican rice and homemade chile'. My husband LOVED it! Thanks so much for the great recipe.

Mom Sykes' Hungarian Goulash

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2008
I was excited to try this recipe as I have not had great goulash since I lived in Europe in the early 90's. I was a bit disappointed as it did not have the wonderful flavor that I remember. The meat was tender and yummy but the sauce was lacking.

Caldo De Res (Beef Soup)

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2004
This was pretty good. Almost as good as my Dad made when I was growing up (he was from Mexico). I added corn on the cob and zucchini because that's how I always had it.

Coconut Cream Cake I

I made this cake for a neighborhood BBQ and everyone loved it. Even those that aren't huge coconut fan's would enjoy this cake. Next time I won't use all of the sauce. It was a little soggy. Thanks!

I made this for friends and everyone loved it. It is very good. I'm not a big fan of ground beef, so I used only 1 pound and it was just enough.

Russian Tea Cakes I

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2001
I have used other tea cake recipes which have been very dry. This recipe is by far the best one I have tried. I make them every Christmas. My family and friends love them. I do substitute the walnuts for pecans just because I love pecans. DELICIOUS!

Barbye's Cornbread Dressing

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2001
I made this for Thanksgiving. No one in my family liked it. I ended up throwing it away. Even though we love white wine the flavor was too overpowering in this recipe. Maybe it would be better with 1/2 cup wine and more chicken broth?

Creamy Hot Cocoa

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2001
This cocoa was indeed creamy and tasty. Although my family found it entirely too sweet. The second time I made it I used a little less than 1/2 cup sugar and it was much better.

This recipe worked well. Although, the ingredients list 2 tbps of water and the recipe does not mention water. Is there a step missing?

Deluxe Waffles

I didn't think this recipe was worth the little bit of extra work. They were soft but seemed almost soggy. I guess my family prefers the crispier version waffle.
