Fried Onion Rings

Reviewed: May 27, 2009
I did not have beer and used perrier as another reviewer suggested - these were really really good. I said four stars because I would like them to have a little more flavor. I added extra seasoning but next time I will make two changes. I am going to try vidalia onions and more seasonings in the batter. Thank you for the recipe.

Old Fashioned Peach Cobbler

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2009
For me the crust needed extra flour but aside from that thisd recipe was perfect! I used two cans of peaches that I drained and rinsed and then followed the directions here for. Everyone loved it, including my southern girlfriend who always compares everything to the way her grandma made it. Thank you!

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2008
The perfect crust. Here's a hint I learned in the corporate kitchen I work in. If you don't have a pizza stone but want a crispy bottom crust through the slice of pizza into a hot pan for a minute or so before eating. It will crisp it right up.

Roasted Pears with Caramel Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2008
Perfect~ My friends mother from Spain made these while visiting and I couldn't wait to try these at home. They were delicious. I thickened the sauce a bit after baking to make it a little more "caramel" like.

Apple Dumplings II

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2008
I had some leftovr apples I wanted to do something with before they went bad, and this was a great recipe. The dough was a little difficult to work with and I may try some changes with it in the future but the Dumplings were a big hit!

Scottley's Basic Yellow Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2008
I had given up on fiding a "from scratch" cake recipe that was moist and delicious - and then I found this recipe!! I only gave it four stars because I did make a few changes to the recipe. I added two tablespoons of vegetqable oil, an extra egg and a small envelope of instant vanilla pudding mix. I've made this recipe twice and my friends can't stop raving about them! I used Wilton's recipe for Buttercream Icing with meringue powder to ice them.

Naan

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2008
I have made this recipe several times. It is easy and delicious. I do not cook it on a grill, I make it in my broiler. The most important part I have found is that you really have to stand there and watch the dough. I set a timer for two minutes and depending on the heat coming out of the oven even that is too long sometimes. As I said, all in all it's easy, you just realy have to watch the dough.

Creamy Potato Leek Soup II

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2008
I did make a few alterations, but all in all this recipe was delicious! I was worried about all the bacon, I thought the bacon flavor might be overwhelimg. But the soup was just delcious. Here are the few changes I made that were really successful! I cut the bacon into little pieces. Then in a huge stockpot, I cooked the bacon on medium heat. When it was cooked through I added the leeks. When they were thoroughly sauteed and cooked down (5-8 min) I added flour a tablespoon at a time until a majority of the grease from the bacon was absorbed. Next, I added the potatoes and the chicken stock. I simmered it on low till the potatoes were cooked through. I used 2% milk instead of cream, and I let it simmer low until we were ready to eat. I did add, pepper and garlic, but it was delicious without it too.

Cinnamon Buns

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2008
These are really good - but it's true you should not make them expecting a yeast style cinnamon bun. They are like a cinnamon biscuit. I used a little less baking mix in the mixture and was generous with baking mix in the roll out. I also used more cinnamon then called for and more sugar - I put a thick coat of it on top of the butter and then dusted the tops before baking. Additionally, two minutes before I took the buns out of the oven I brushed them with butter. The outer part of the roll was more biscuit like - but the centers were moist and delicious. I also needed more milk for the icing - maybe an 1/8 of a cup or so.

Classic Butter Cookies I

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2007
These cookies are delicious. After reading a bunch of the comments I decided to just roll them for my first try and they came out so perfectly. I can see how they might be sticky for rolling but after working the dough in my hands a bit it seemed like it might be okay. :)
