These turned out delicious! And even better the next day!! I made them with bread flour instead of all purpose and they came out wonderfully soft and slightly chewy. Otherwise, I stuck to the recipe, as is. We have made a lot of pretzels and find the shaping annoying, so we made bites instead. Also, for those having trouble with rising issues, etc., this recipe calls for active dry yeast, you should check to make sure you aren't using bread machine yeast, which is instant and needs no preparation in sugar water. When using instant (bread machine) yeast, just mix it in with the dry ingredients, then add the warm water as usual. I hope this is helpful. It's also important to keep in mind that flour packs down, so if you aren't shaking it up a bit before measuring, then you are probably actually getting more than the required amount. Loosen your flour before measuring it out and you may find that you don't need less after all.
