Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2007
I have been making this recipe for a few years now. It is the only meatloaf I can get the whole family to eat...and they all love it! I even get requests for meatloaf now!

Pork Chops with Italian Sausage

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2007
I have been making this recipe for a few years and it's one of my favorites! I like more sauce for mine though, so I double the tomato sauce and red wine, as well as using a full pound of sausage. This is excellent served with brown rice!

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2007
These are wonderful!! They always turn out great! I've made them rolled both thick and thin. Unless you intend to ice them and let them sit overnight to soften, they are much, much better rolled thick. I usually go 3/8-1/2 inch. With a nice think coating of frosting they are almost like fat little cakes! My family loves them.

Sugar Cookie Icing

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2007
I just used this recipe and loved it. I've never been a fan of almond, though, so I did replace it with lemon extract, and it tastes great! For my batch of cookies, I had to triple the recipe and still ran out. But it's beautiful and delicious. :)

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2007
I followed this recipe exactly (except that I sauteed the veggies first) and I'm sorry to say, I found it to be bland. I was very excited about it because of SO many rave reviews, but we all thought it was boring. I am still giving it 3 stars though because it did make a great base. I ended up adding some dried thyme, about a 1/4 cup of sherry, extra salt/pepper, and cheese, and it turned out great! I served it in homemade bread bowls, too, which was sooo yummy. Just taste, but these extra ingredients were helpful for my family.

Butter Snow Flakes

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2007
This is a really good recipe, but if anyone had any doubts as to whether or not there should be 8 oz. of cream cheese or only 3 oz...doubt no more. I made this recipe both ways so that I could be sure. The 3 oz. recipe was literally awful! They were pasty, gummy, and yucky. They came out of the press beautifully and baked just as well....but they were sooooo yucky. The 8 oz. recipe on the other hand was great. Once again, they came out of the press well (a little stickier, of course), and they baked up great. And they tasted wonderful. Will make again...and the orange zest is a great touch.

Very good. I prepared identical to recipe, except I doubled the rice for more bite. And I used a homemade curry powder. Very yummy!

Chocolate Crinkles II

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2007
Very tasty! Fudgy...sugary...what more could you ask for?! I made these for Thanksgiving and stuck to the recipe 100%; they were easy, and a big hit. Ten minutes was the perfect amount of time for them. I used Ghirardelli unsweetened cocoa powder and they came out nice and black, which was set off beautifully by the confectioner's sugar. Definitely a keeper!

Mom's Best Peanut Brittle

I am not a fan of peanut brittle, but this tastes just like the stuff my grandpa loved when I was a little girl. My husband really loves peanut brittle and he gives this 5 stars!

Apple Breakfast Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2008
I made this recipe exactly as directed, except that I made it as muffins to cut bake time for a special Valentine's Day breakfast. Turned out delicious! Just before putting them in the oven, I sprinkled turbinado sugar on top. I baked them for 20 minutes at 375 degrees and they turned out perfect. Made 18 muffins.

SO yummy!! Everyone loves this! And if you want to spice it for adults only, vodka or rum both work beautifully with it! I freeze it in gallon zipper bags for less mess and easy clean up.

Mini Cheesecakes I

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2008
Followed directions precisely. Only so-so. In my husband's words: "Not 'cheesecake-y' enough." The filling just didn't really have a full cheesecake flavor. Plus, the bottoms fell off...that was not fun.

Buttery Soft Pretzels

Reviewed: Mar. 15, 2008
These turned out delicious! And even better the next day!! I made them with bread flour instead of all purpose and they came out wonderfully soft and slightly chewy. Otherwise, I stuck to the recipe, as is. We have made a lot of pretzels and find the shaping annoying, so we made bites instead. Also, for those having trouble with rising issues, etc., this recipe calls for active dry yeast, you should check to make sure you aren't using bread machine yeast, which is instant and needs no preparation in sugar water. When using instant (bread machine) yeast, just mix it in with the dry ingredients, then add the warm water as usual. I hope this is helpful. It's also important to keep in mind that flour packs down, so if you aren't shaking it up a bit before measuring, then you are probably actually getting more than the required amount. Loosen your flour before measuring it out and you may find that you don't need less after all.
