Broccoli Cheese Soup V

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2014
This just wasn't good. I have no idea how it has gotten so many good reviews. My 8 year old described it as straight cheese dip. My 9 year old said the same thing. My husband who usually eats anything I make said it tasted way too salty and all he tasted was Velveeta. I attempted to save it by adding a bunch of shredded sharp cheddar but there was no way to get rid of the cheese dip taste. It was also very thin. Unless you just love eating melted Velveeta, this is not the restaurant quality broccoli cheese soup you are looking for. It does make a ton.

Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2014
Our whole family loved this soup. Only changes I made were to sub Rotel for the tomatoes and green chiles, add black beans, and use all chicken broth instead of water. I also put the chicken breasts in raw and shredded them at the end. Only complaint is that it didnt make enough. We have a family of 4 and we each had a bowl and there were no leftovers. If you want leftovers or have a larger family, you may want to consider doubling.

Stuffed Green Peppers I

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2014
This is the only way I make stuffed peppers and they are great. Be careful not to overcook your peppers or they will be incredibly mushy after baking.

Banana Slush Punch

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2014
I have been making this punch for parties years and am finally taking the time to review it. It is absolutely delightful and people always ask for the recipe. I once served it at a bridal shower for my sister and then made it a couple years later at her baby shower and some of the guests from the bridal shower remembered it at her baby shower. That's how good it is! It is worth the time of blending and freezing to make your own "sherbert". Say bye bye to store bought sherbert and ginger ale in your punch bowl!

Brown Rice, Broccoli, Cheese and Walnut Surprise

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2014
Sorry, this just wasn't good. It was bland and needed something, although I don't know what. Won't be making this again.

Absolutely perfect as written, although I leave out the sesame seeds most of the time. Everyone that tries it, loves it.

I double the spices and everyone loves this. My brother in law commented that it tasted like it came from a restaurant.

Italian Spaghetti Sauce with Meatballs

The BEST spaghetti and meatballs recipe around. I make it as written and it's devoured every time. Works great with tomatoes canned from the summer.

Beef Stew VI

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2014
As written, the recipe is ok and a little bland. With a few changes I made suggested by other reviewers, I could give it 5 stars. I added 1/2 c red wine, tablespoon each of ketchup and worcetershire sauce, increased veggies, and floured the meat before frying. Delish!

Shrimp Scampi IV

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2014
As written this recipe is ok. Made the first time as written and the second time I added couple splashes lemon juice, sauteed in a pan instead of broiling, and omitted the green onion and it was 4-5 stars.

Grandma's Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2014
This is definitely not the traditional green bean casserole, but was ok. I think I will keep searching for the perfect recipe that doesnt use cream of mushroom soup, but this one isnt it. We didnt really like the tang that the sour cream added.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2014
As written, I only gave this recipe 3 stars. It was far too sweet and we don't like chicken thighs. However, with a few changes, this recipe is 5 stars and the whole family loves it. The changes I made were, using boneless skinless chicken breast, cutting the sugar in half and subbing brown sugar for "half of the half", used low sodium soy sauce, a little bit of red chili flakes for some spice, tablespoon of peanut butter and a little sesame oil, and baked the chicken for only 30 minutes. This is on the weekly rotation now. If you like a lot of sauce to put over rice, double all sauce ingredients.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2014
I made this recipe as written except leaving out the fennel seeds. It really is amazing and this is my go to lasagna recipe. There was some meat sauce leftover at the end that I saved to add to the leftovers to make it less dry.

Boilermaker Tailgate Chili

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2014
As is, this chili is a little too spicy for a family with young children. I cut paprika, cayenne, chili powder, and chili pepper in half and was still spicy, but not over the top so my children could eat it. After that, we all loved it.
