Mexican Brownies

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2014
These are just the best Brownies ever! I had to use Chipotle Chile powder, it was the only one I had left in the house but they were amazing, my kids loved them, my husband loved them and they will be being made again. Thank you for sharing.

Venison Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2014
I did make quite a few changes, mostly because I know my families tastes. I upped the spices and cut back on the wine, this seemed to be a lot of liquid for only 2 pounds of meat and it was a very nice bottle of wine, I wanted to drink it, not eat it! Even then I added a tin of Romano beans towards the end of cooking because there was still a lot of liquid. I only added one tablespoon of sugar and am considering cutting back on the vinegar next time so I can eliminate it completely. I didn't add any canola oil to cook my bacon, it didn't need it, bacon has it's own fat and I only used one tablespoon of butter to sweat the onions in. This recipe is a good basis, my family all enjoyed it, but agreed that we'll continue tweaking it, thank you for sharing it with us.

Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2013
This is such an easy recipe! I also found the batter was a bit dry and I added about three tablespoons of milk and sorted it out. My kids all loved them and I will use this again, as I said it's just so quick and easy.

Chef John's Pumpkin Pancakes

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2012
These were lovely, I agree with adding a small amount of extra milk, I wouldn't go as far as another half cup, but it did need more. It really doesn't take much to see that the batter's a bit thick and add a little extra. My family loved them, thank you for sharing.

Chutney Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2012
This was amazing, so simple and so good. I didn't have onion soup mix, it's just not something I keep in my house so I used roasted, dried garlic and onion salt. My chutney was a home made one, Green Tomato and I added chilli's to make it spicy. This was very moist chicken. Thank you for sharing.

Sweet and Sour Drumettes

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2012
Very salty! If I made this again I'd cut down on the soy and add pineapple juice instead sugar. It's not that I won't try it again, but I am going to tweak it.

Mexican Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2012
This is what I did. The chops were browned as in the recipe, I used a tin of chilli's in adobe sauce and navy beans as that's all I had. I also added chopped peppers and a couple of apples because I had some that were bruised that my kids were refusing to eat. I won't brown the chops again as they were quite dry, I will use the tinned chilli's in adobe sauce and the navy beans, they seemed to work really well, the apples were quite good too. I did clean and soak my rice, that makes it cook way quicker, I'll make sure I do that again too. We will be using this again, thank you for sharing it.

Banana Loaf Cake I

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2011
loved this, lots of banana flavour, very light texture and so easy to make. My only change was to use 1/2 a cup of white sugar and 1/2 a cup of brown sugar. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Slow Cooker Chicken Marrakesh

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2011
This was great, very easy to make and all natural. I changed the beans and substituted celery instead because my kids are not huge fans of beans, we all loved the delicate flavours and how they work together. Thank you for sharing this.

Pan Fried Swiss Chard

Love this recipe, I grow Swiss Chard in my garden every year and this is now my go to recipe for it. I also chop up the stems and biol them before I add them to the pan. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Slow-Cooked Short Ribs

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2011
Loved the overall recipe, I did make a couple of changes, I left out the butter, short ribs have a lot of fat and it seemed odd to put more in when they're being cooked. I also left out the sugar, my family have more savoury tastes and find meat sauces with sugar added very strange tasting, so that one is just a personal thing. My only other change was to add more flour because there is a lot of gravy with this dish. My family enjoyed it without the changes but they enjoy it even more with them. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Wall's T-Bone Steak Marinade

Reviewed: Jul. 15, 2011
This works for any steak, we halved the quantities because there are only 4 of us, apart from that I used Dijon mustard just because that's what I had and it worked great. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Easy Baking Powder Drop Biscuits

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2011
Yum! I did savoury these up though, instead of the sugar I added a teaspoon of garlic powder, fresh ground pepper and some grated cheese, my butter was salted anyway so there was no need for more to be added. We topped them with more grated cheese and a pinch of paprika.

Cabbage Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2011
My kids loved this, all I did was leave out the sugar, none of us has the north American sweet tooth. We will try this again, without the extra sugar, for a savory dish it was sweet enough already.

Slow Cooker Lentil and Ham Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2010
Love this recipe. I made two changes, I didn't have time to use my slow cooker, so it was made on my stove top and when I found that my husband had used up all of my tomato sauce I substituted a large can of crushed tomatoes and left out the extra water. Because I used the stove top method I fried off my vegetables first and then added the rest of the ingredients. I will certainly make this again and thank you for sharing it.

Haricots Verts Lyonnaise

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2010
Loved this, it was very similar to a Haricot dish I had whilst on holiday in France. I did make a couple of changes though, I didn't have red wine vinegar, so I used cider vinegar instead and I didn't throw out the garlic, I kept it in the dish, I just added it when the onion had finished sweating. This is one you should try, all of my family loved it, even my picky eaters, thank you for sharing it with us.
