About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I love to try new recipes for both cooking and baking.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother worked so she let me plan a lot of menus and cook for our family of six. I eventually took over the cooking and baking and have had a love affair with both for the past 40 years. I have a large collection of cookbooks which I constantly refer to. I am planning on writing a family cookbook so that my neices and nephews can have a permanent record of our cooking traditions (English background).

Good Old Fashioned Pancakes
Like other reviews, I also found this a bit salty. I also found the batter thick and the pancakes a bit coarse...maybe a bit too much baking powder. However they were fluffy and had a nice taste.

Amish White Bread
This is my second attempt at baking bread...the first time was about 20 years ago and suffice to say it was such a disaster that I have not attempted to try again until I saw this recipe and all the great reviews. It was easy and turned out perfect! I took the suggestion about reducing the sugar to 1/4 cup and I think this is good. I would probably increase it to 2/3 if making a sweet bread such as cinnamon rolls. I won't need to look for another recipe, this is perfect. I thought some readers might like to know that I split the dough into thirds and put them in well oiled aluminum loaf pans from the dollar store. I think I should be able to use them several times. I live alone and am diabetic so I don't need a large loaf. Baking time was the same, 30 minutes.
