Bacon Wrapped Barbeque Shrimp

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2014
This wasn't a very informative recipe. More of a technique. If you're going to say it comes as close as your favorite restaurant version, then please tell us what is in your BBQ seasoning and how much you used. "BBQ seasoning to taste" doesn't tell anything. Was it sweet or spicy? A rub? A sauce?

I made it exactly as written, and it was good. Next time I will cut the lemon juice to 2Tbsp.

Golden Pork Chops

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2013
AS written this recipe is only a 3. Browning the meat before baking makes a huge difference and is well worth the extra time and effort. I brown the meat in 2-3 batches in a cast iron skillet, deglaze the pan with a small amount of white wine, then add back all the ingredients, cover the skillet with foil and pop into the oven.

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2013
These were not my favorite. While they were very fluffy and light, I found the super-thick batter difficult to work with. The cooked pancakes had a slight vinegary odor and you could definitely taste it. I won't make them again.

Curried Chicken Tea Sandwiches

Reviewed: May 17, 2012
As written I only gave this 3 stars. It was rather bland and a bit dry, even after making it a day ahead as suggested by other reviewers. Once I toasted the pecans, doubled the curry and added 1/2 tsp salt it was fantastic and worthy of 5 stars.

Cheesy Baked Cauliflower

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2010
These were fantastic. Everyone liked them, even the kids who don't normally care for cauliflower. I followed the recipe as written except that I didn't steam them at all.

Jalapeno-Garlic-Onion Cheeseburgers

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2010
As is the recipe lacked flavor, which is why I only gave it a 3. To pump up the flavor I doubled the amount of onion, then sauteed the onion and garlic till caramel colored, added 1 TBSP of freshly ground black pepper and 1 tsp salt. I used diced pickled jalapenos instead of fresh. I skipped the cheese and I missed it. Next time I think I will try extra sharp cheddar.

Black Bean Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2009
I used diced tomatoes and wanted to keep those chunks, so I blended half the beans with broth instead. It's a little watery and bland as written. I let this simmer for hours to develop the flavor and to thicken a bit, and I added a Tablespoon or so of salt.

Pumpkin Muffins II

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2008
These were fantastic. Following other reviews, I cut all the spices but cinnamon in half. I frosted them with a cream cheese frosting (cram cheese, powdered sugar and almond extract) and they were so good! The recipe made 24 regular sized muffins.

Maple Apple Crisp

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2008
I made this with honey crisp apples and served it warm with vanilla ice cream. It was SO good! The maple was really subtle, but added just the right amount of flavor. A pinch of nutmeg was aded, too.

Chocolate Chip Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2008
Based on other reviews, I made some changes. I used 1c milk, 2 eggs, 1/2c sour cream and 1 Tbsp vanilla. This made the batter a little too loose, so I tossed the chocolate chips with an extra 1/c flour before stirring them into the batter. I got 18 regular sized muffins from this amount of batter. I baked them for exactly 20 minutes and they were perfect. They rose beautifully and were lightly brown and crispy on top. Moist and delicious inside. I only gave the recipe 4 stars since I made so many changes.

Apple Crisp I

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2008
I wasn't impressed with this recipe. The filling was dry, and I think it would have been better with sugar and cinnamon mixed in with the apples. I didn't care for the topping at all. I found this topping heavy and hard rather than crisp and light. I will not make this again.

Plum-Kissed Pear Jam

I always get lots of compliments on this recipe. I like to use black plums as they make the jam a beautiful color.
