My favorite things to cook
I love to make desserts! Especially things that you can make really pretty by decorating (such as placing a bouquet in the middle of a bundt cake, then dressing up the bottom edge, too). And I love my new reputation for being the girl who makes a lot of great desserts :)
My favorite family cooking traditions
My grandparents are from the South, so a lot of our family recipes are heavy on heart-stopping goodness (that is to say, if you can make a vegetable unhealthy, it tastes 10x better, lol). Though I enjoy cooking healthier fare, I can't help but revel once in a while in food that lets you feel your arteries harden as you eat :)
My cooking triumphs
I make the best meatloaf. No questions asked. And no recipes to pass on, either, since it's one of those "family secrets" - and it's a secret worth keeping! So good!!
My cooking tragedies
My DH has a love for cooking and a mind that loves to discover why and how certain ingredients work - he's also got about 10yrs experience on me in this, so he can make amazing things without recipes. I tried to follow suit, once... bless my husband for eating that. Let's just say I hugely underestimated the potency of some spices... tears were streaming during that meal.

Flourless Chocolate Cake I
Fantastic - we substituted espresso for the water and used 72% dark Belgian chocolate - it was amazing! The texture was exactly like a truffle. We also had more people show up than expected, and had to cut this one cake into 24 pieces - but it was so rich, it was still plenty! Now I want to make it in a square pan, cut into bite size squares and top each with a choc. covered espresso bean - this would make a great addition to a dessert table.

Butterscotch Sauce II
The recipe "as is" is good, but you notice sweet first and taste second (not ideal). I added another Tbsp of butter (total of 1/4 cup) and a dash more of milk, and 1/2 tsp of vanilla - the flavor was so much better and more rich (less pure sugar taste). We really enjoyed this recipe with those tweaks. On another note, DON'T let it boil - the texture becomes grainy (I unwisely thought I could do dishes AND stir occasionaly... but out of sight, out of mind. The flavor was still great, though, and we'll make this again) Thank for the recipe :)
