Mom's Yeast Rolls

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2008
First, let me say, I like how the bread I made with this recipe turned out. I also used half the dough for rolls. That being said. My rolls were not light and fluffy (still yummy though). My bread loaf had no problem rising. This was my FIRST attempt at making bread using yeast, so I called my mom. After reading the recipe to her, she told me it would make a heavy bread. Also, the recipe never mentions to knead the dough (it says to mix it). Had I not called Mom, I think it would have been a messy disaster. I will make a loaf of bread with this recipe again. Still looking for a good dinner roll recipe, though. Oh, one hint to add from my mom...when letting the dough rise keep it away from any drafts or breezes and cover with plastic wrap.

Yellow Cake Made from Scratch

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2008
The only thing that saved this cake was that I put it in the refridgerator so we could eat it cold. It was dry and flat. I followed the recipe as written.

Spiced Pear Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2008
We really liked this recipe. Even though I wrote it down wrong (I only used 15 oz. of pears, drained the juice and saved it.) I also didn't have any oil, so I added a little extra applesauce. The batter was too thick so I added the pear juice last. Also a bit of nutmeg, mmmmm!! Will make it again, mistakes and all.

Irene's Barbeque Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2007
Living on a cattle ranch, we also trap the occasional wild hog. I used this recipe on some smoked hog that I chopped up for BBQ sandwiches. WOW it was good. Just a couple alterations. I didn't have any cayenne pepper or liquid smoke, and I felt it needed more brown sugar ( maybe 3/4 of a cup total) For a little extra "something" I added about 1/4 tsp. of nutmeg and some minced garlic. Delicious!

Simple Baked Apples

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2007
We loved this recipe so much I made again the next day. I thought I could improve on a good thing so I used Bisquick mix instead of flour (about 1 cup, I eyeballed it I don't measure usually) and increased the milk to about 1 cup also. Omitted the nuts and combined about 3/4 cup of quick oats(oatmeal) to the dry ingredients. After 1 hour in the oven it came out awesome. We will be eating this often! :)

We eat alot of fish at my house, so I went looking for something different to try. This recipe was SOOO good and easy to do. My husband loved it, my 6 year old did not. I would make it again though!
