About this Cook
I like to cook. But, just as I enjoy planning a vacation almost as much as the actual trip, browsing for new recipes is half the fun of cooking.
My favorite things to cook
I suppose I love to bake the best...especially muffins which I often make ahead & keep in the freezer. One pot meals are great, especially soup which I think is the ultimate comfort food
My favorite family cooking traditions
Not very creative here - of course the usual baking of each family member's favorite cake or pie for birthdays. If you asked my kids what their favorite family cooking tradition/event is I think they would say that it's when their dad makes biscuits and gravy for them on Christmas morning.
My cooking triumphs
That would probably be when I finally stopped killing anything made with yeast!
My cooking tragedies
There have been many (mostly minor) and there will be more! 'Nuf said!

San Francisco Pork Chops
I followed the advice of the majority of reviewers by cutting back on the cooking time and decreasing the amount of soy sauce and upping the beef broth. I regularly decrease soy sauce amounts in recipes as I usually find listed amounts too salty. Wish I'd omitted the oil called for in the sauce preparation. It wasn't needed as there was an ample amount left in the pan after browning the chops. I'll definitely make this again with these changes as the taste is delish!

Quick and Almost-Professional Buttercream Icing
Very fluffy and quite delicious! Must say this is probably the best buttercream frosting I've ever made. I did use salted butter because that is what I had on hand, but I would have added a bit of salt anyway because I always use a pinch just to tone down the sweetness. Many thanks for this outstanding recipe!

Barley Bake
My daughter had previously tried this and thought it was still "soupy" after religiously following the exact measurements and baking times. She suggested slightly decreasing the liquid. As I decided to decrease the liquid to 1 can of broth (I used chicken), I also decreased the barley to three fourth cups instead of one. After an hour in the oven it was done perfectly. The only other change was to use half butter and half olive oil. Super delicious! Thank you Katinhat!
