I'm getting married in October, 2008 and I'm determined to learn how to cook before then. I've always found the kitchen to be intimidating and never bothered learning to cook too much for myself. However, now I'm not only learning to cook, but starting to really enjoy it. My fiancee makes amazing home-made pizza and I want to keep up with him!
My favorite things to cook
I like making casseroles because I can make them on Monday and then it's up to me whether I cook or eat leftovers for the rest of the week! I love trying adventurous recipes and making Thai food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother is an awesome chef and my dad is a grill master, I have some serious standards to measure up to! My fiancee and I go to family dinner at their house every Sunday and are always delighted at what turns up on the table. We lived in Japan while my father was in the Air Force and on special occasions my mother makes Katsudan, Japanese pork chops with a special onion sauce. I look forward to it every birthday and being from a big family, there are plenty of birthdays! She also does some serious baking during the holidays.
My cooking tragedies
I once decided to substitute soy milk for regular milk in a hamburger helper and forgot that I was using vanilla soy milk. It turned out disgusting, similar to a milkshake and hamburger casserole.
