About this Cook
Mother of 4, married for 30+ years, love cats, needlework and cooking (when I have time). Enjoy trying new recipes and giving them my own touch.
My favorite things to cook
I like trying new recipes. I especially like to bake and use my slow-cooker. Soups are a particular favorite.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Pork chops and potato salad - both recipes handed down from my grandmother. She was German and the potato salad is hot and delicious with bits of bacon and onion - no mayonnaise here. The chops are fried schnitzel style and my kids who have left home request this dinner when they come home.
My cooking triumphs
Ummmm.... feeding my family and having them think I'm the best cook around???
My cooking tragedies
Burning peas. I was heating a can of peas when I was first married and got distracted. The peas started to burn, setting off the smoke alarm. They burned so badly that I had to throw out the pot they were in. Needless to say, I've improved since then!

Easy Rib Eye Roast
I have used this recipe several times now and it always turns out great! It's very easy. I did make one change and that was to use minced onion instead of garlic. Otherwise it's perfect.

Apple and Orange Chicken
It was quick and easy and we loved it. We used chicken drumsticks but all agreed it would definitely be better with the chicken breasts. We will make it again.

Traditional French Canadian Tourtiere
Just like my Memere's!!!!! I loved it. Brought back lots of memories of childhood for me. I used lean pork and 90% lean beef so the only thing I will change next time is I would use a little more of the meat juices in it to make it just a little moister next time. Otherwise, it was excellent.
