Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2015
I have had trouble coming up with a really good pie crust for my pizza. Last night I finally nailed it thanks to this recipe. Thanks Jay for sharing the recipe. I used a pizza stone and a regular Wilson cookie sheet. Both pizzas came out great. I did double the sugar and added some Rosemary. Otherwise made it as is. You gotta try this if your pizza crust is in need of help.

Traditional White Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2015
The bread turned out quite tasty. In fact I think the two of us ate half of it before it had time to cool. I used my stand up kitchen aid mixer with the bread hook after stirring in the first two cups of flour. I recommend using the proof setting on your oven if you have one. But be careful when you take the towel off the loaves in the pan, after the second rise. I lost some height As the pans were too close together and when I separated them, they fell a bit. Oh I did reduce the salt by half after readin other peoples post. The recipe was easy enough to make.I have to give it four stars though because there seems to be a step missing, I didn't understand how long the bread should bake at 425? Or do i just turn the oven down when i put the loaves in? This was confusing to me since I have never made this type of bread before. Thanks for the recipe, I will definitely be trying this again.

Cheesy Broccoli and Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2014
I followed the basic recipe because I needed a place to start, I didn't make it exactly the same because I only had fresh veggies to work with. Milk, onion, garlic, half a head of cauliflower and a few heads of broccoli, broth, cheese and flour I mashed the veggies with a potato masher though I didn't add the butter. I also added some seasonings like cayenne and thyme. Not bad, I don't think I would have liked it much exactly as described. Thanks for a good starting point. Guess I should enter my own version as a new recipe.

Homemade Horseradish Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2014
This is exactly what I wanted it to taste like. The right amount of horseradish to sour cream. I didn't change a thing. When I served it with the prime rib, my guests wanted to know what restaurant I got it from. Enjoy!

Peppermint Bark

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2014
Per several reviews I made a few changes to make it worth the effort of two Hours.first,I made this with crushed candy canes not the peppermint candies. And I used both white chocolate and dark chocolate chips 12oz. instead of bar chocolate - in the microwave on the "melt" chocolate setting because I am simply not that patient while making 4 doz of the Sandy's supreme sugar cookies, which also turned out to be awesome.. Anyway, back to my point I chilled the first layer on wax paper with Pam sprayed on it to prevent sticking. On a whim, I broke the candy canes into smaller pieces and popped in the manual food chopper. It created fairly uniform pices with some sugar dust. Used a sifter to separate and put the small pieces on the first layer to avoid the challenge caused by too large pieces on the bottom layer. Used the larger pieces on the second layer to add pizazz and color. I highly recommend the use of a second layer of wax paper over the top of the finished product to break the pieces and keep the candy bits from flying about the room. We learned this the hard way, lol. The Big Guy immediately declared it as His! And put it in a container not to be shared as Xmas gifts...I think it was a huge success.. Total cost for 2 12 oz bags of chocolate and candy canes...5.60. Happiness of my hubby of 29 years? Priceless!

Sandy's Super Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2014
I found this recipe in my holiday edition of allrecipes the magazine. I came here to check the reviews before I began. I must start by saying, i consider myself an accomplished baker. But, I have previously been unable to master sugar cookies. With this recipe, I have finally succeeded. I halved the recipe, doubled the vanilla and left everything else as is. Wow! They were easy to roll, made firm, crisp cookies with the best taste ever. I will always use this recipe going forward! Thanks sandy for sharing this recipe. I will play with it in the future to try the other add ins. Happy holidays Y'all!

Pickled Padron Peppers

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2014
Made this yesterday. Added yellow, orange and red peppers with onions to the jalapeños. It reduced the heat and the Big Guy loved that because hot peppers make him perspire. These had just the right amount of heat for both of us!

Ninety Minute Cinnamon Rolls

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2014
I have made this recipe twice and both times was amazed by how well these come together. I love that these are homemade-worth the time it takes. If your a new cook don't be afraid to try this, be sure to follow the recipe exactly, you will surprise yourself. Tip - chop walnuts to add to filling instead of raisins for a different flavor. Since there are only two in the household and my husband will eat them in two days if I leave them out, I am freezing these in sections of four to have as a quick breakfast or afternoon snack. I hope they freeze well. Will let you all know how it turns out.

Chocolate Cornstarch Pudding

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2014
I was interested in making pudding but didn't have any in a box. Boy am I glad I didn't. This is better than any boxed pudding and so worth the effort. I read other reviews first. So, I put all my dry ingredients in a bowl and stirred them all together, then added to the dry pan and stirred a bit till some of the sugar melted. I added 3/4 cup of milk to dry ingredients in pan and stirred with a slotted wooden spoon. Once all the ingredients combined, I added the rest of the milk and stirred.. Wah-la. No lumps.
