About this Cook
Hello, my name is Christine, but I'm better known as Chrissy! What can I say about myself? Well, I love to cook. When friends and family have gatherings or parties, I'm the one who always offers to cook something. I've been cooking since I was 10 years old. I learned how to cook from my Mother and Grandmother. I come from a Spanish background and in my culture the women always cook. I've learned how to make traditional dishes as well as create many new ones with simple techniques. If I had a choice to be anywhere, I would be in the kitchen! Nothing makes me happier than cooking a fabulous meal and serving it to friends and family. That's the only time when I like to be the center of attention. Plus, it's fun and easy! Well, at least for me. Besides my mom always told me a way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Believe me people it worked! Luckily I met a man who loves to cook and loves to eat. Together we can whip anything in a flash!
My favorite things to cook
Everthing is in moderation, I pretty much love to cook a variety of things. Mainly healthy dishes with a Carribean flavors. If I had to choice one dish we mainly eat at home, it would be Pan seared Churrasco on a bed of spinach with a lime dressing or my version of Picadillo! Chrissy's Style!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Traditions, well, we always have to eat Pernil for every birthday or Holiday, except for Thanksgiving. It's a Baked Pork Shoulder and it taste so good!!! And of couse Arroz con Gandules which is yellow rice and pigeon peas. Usually, a week or before Thanksgiving or Christmas we prepare Pasteles to have as a side dish for the Holidays. It's a long process and we make about 75-100 individual Pastel.
My cooking triumphs
My triumph is cooking. I love creating new dishes and having it taste like something I've always been cooking all my life. That's the best feeling of Triumph!
My cooking tragedies
Practice makes perfect. I've had many accidents where I've bured the rice or over salted something. We not perfect and it happens. Learn from your mistakes and move on.
