About this Cook
Originally from England I love basic good food, but have learned to love and cook foods from other lands. I run my own ceramic and pottery studio and make my own unique serving pieces.
My favorite things to cook
I have learned to cook Indonesian, Chinese and Indian foods that are some of my more unique specialties. But lately I have been making bread again. Scones are a house favorite fresh from the oven for a special morning treat
My favorite family cooking traditions
Being English I still make trifles, roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, scones. Anything that reminds me of my roots is my favorite. I also find great satisfaction in making a great dinner with only what I can find in the kitchen and not shop for other ingredients. It does help when their are some good staples in the pantry.
My cooking triumphs
I once was in charge of preparing a meal for our club. I decided on Beef Strogonoff. I bought meat from the Cash and Carry and did not know until I got it to the kitchen that it needed preparing like the butcher would do. This was arduous but it saved money in the long run. There were 70 guests and the dinner was very well received be all. I went home exhausted but glad it went well. I could not have done it all without my team of ladies that helped me
My cooking tragedies
I always quickly forget any cooking misses and move on. Perhaps I think of what not to do the next time. Onward and upward I always say.

Meatless Mincemeat Pie
This was simple and delicious. The best mincemeat pie ever. My family loved it. The recipe made more than I needed for 1 pie so I used the leftovers and made a country tart and topped the mincemeat with sliced canned pear and that was delicious also.

Mrs. Sigg's Fresh Pumpkin Pie
This was my first time actually using a fresh pumpkin. Much easier than I ever thought. I will do this again. The pie was much more flavorful and it had more texture sort of like a sweet potato pie. I cheated and used store bought pie crust and still the family really loved it. I roasted the pumkins and left them to cool overnight, the meat came off beautifully. I pureed the entire recipe mixture in the blender and filled 1 pie shell to the brim and made some pumpkin tarts with the rest since I did not have enough for a whole pie.The tarts went over very well and were a perfect serving with a squirt of cream on top.

Delicious Pumpkin Bread
This was absolutely fabulous. Everyone loved it. It was moist and fruity with just enough pumpkin taste. A great way to bring in the fall weather. I will definately make this again and again.
