Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2012
Tweaked the recipe a bit. I added minced garlic & mushrooms while browning meat Also black pepper. Added 1 can beef broth, cut 2 cups water to 3/4 & added 1/4 cup red wine. cut soy sauce & Worcestershire sauce to 1/8 cup each. Omited salt & before serving thickened juice w/corn starch to make gravy. Turned out perfect. Will make again.

Uncle Bill's Sweet and Sour Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2011
Just made this and it is a keeper. My husband loved it but I found it was too much vinegar, so will cut down to 3/4 cup next time. I did not have garlic powder so substituted garlic salt and omitted the seasoned salt. I added a little marachino cherry juice in place of the red food dye and omitted the msg. I added chunked pineapple, green pepper and onion and served it over brown rice and breaded chicken chunks. Do need to thicken a little more next time. Will also use garlic powder and seasoned salt next time. Lynn

Asian Orange Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2010
This recipe had a great orange flavor that we loved. I only gave it a 4 stars because the sauce was just too thick and chicken was not as crispy as we would have liked it. I followed the recipe with the exception of coating the chicken with flour and cornflakes. I did not cook the chicken in the sauce, instead I combined rice, slivered almonds, rice noodles, pea pods, green pepper (did not have any red pepper), broccoli, (steamed the green pepper, broccoli and pea pods first) chicken and some of the cooked sauce together and served the rest of the sauce on the side. The next time I will use a lot less corn starch and make the sauce soupier ( like Applebee's recipe). I may stir fry the veggies and chicken also. Otherwise very good. Great flavor!

Simple Summer Smoothie

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2010
I modified this recipe to what I had on hand. I used 1 C Light Vanilla Yogurt, 1 banana, 1 clementine, a few marachino cherries, frozen strawberries (from the garden thawed)& added some of the juice, sugar free honey, and about 8 ice cubes. Blended until smooth. This tasted great, not too sweet and not bitter. Can't wait to get some fresh blueberries to try with it. CareBear

Apple Dumplings III

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2008
My husband love's apple dumplings and this is the first time I have made them. They turned out very tasty but the sauce carmelized while baking. Maybe I should have taken them out of the pan before they cooled because they stuck to the pan and I had a horrible time getting them out. Will make this again but will do something different with the sauce, maybe pouring over after 20 minutes of baking or just remove dumplings before cooling. Anyone has an idea please let me know.
