About this Cook
A mom and homemaker.
My favorite things to cook
Experimenting with spicy ethnic foods and baking my own breads. Peasant food and comfort food. Macaroni and cheese, spaghetti bolognese, cottage pie, soups, B-R-O-W-N-I-E-S....
My favorite family cooking traditions
Indonesian-style satay cookouts. My kids beg for a fondue night.
My cooking triumphs
Perfected my family's white macaroni and cheese. Can make an awesome rib roast.
My cooking tragedies
Accidentally dumping an entire shepherd's pie on the floor. (Lesson learned: Move the casserole to a safe place before moving the rack!) Ruined a salmon dish with bitter oranges. (Lesson learned: Taste first and get ALL the pith off.) I'm mortified when my cheese sauces break and the yorkies don't rise so they're greasy hockey pucks.

Blue Cheese Coleslaw
Five stars because it had the least/simplest ingredients and lots of BACON!!! My boys both cleaned it up and they almost never like the same thing as the other.

Kheer (Rice Pudding)
I was craving the taste of the kheer I had the last time I had it at a restaurant. This filled the bill nicely. I picked this recipe because I thought coconut milk would round out the flavor and fragrance without rosewater, which I didn't have. It was just the right sweetness, and the cream from the coconut milk replaced the richness lost by my using 2% milk. I don't have anything against raisins but I left them out because the restaurant version I had didn't have them. It was simply delightful anyway. I can't wait to have it again when it's thoroughly chilled. Thanks for the recipe!

Indian Chickpeas
This is very tasty and healthy. I only give it four stars as is, but five if you make the changes suggested by ginniej - It tastes better and no need to go to a specialty store for a spice mix.
