Almond Kisses

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2012
I've made these several times now thinking I must have done something wrong, and trying to get them to come out right. Don't get me wrong, these taste really good when they come out of the oven. The problem is the texture. They really don't puff up and look the way they do in the picture. They really just end up being piles of chopped nuts help together by a sugary glaze. They totally fall apart when you try to eat them. I have a feeling these would be really great if you ground the almonds down to almost the consistency of flour, but I don't have the patience to try them again to see.

Fudgy Buttons

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2012
These were the perfect little chocolate fix late at night when you don't have a lot of ingredients on hand. I rated the recipe 4 stars as-is because I tasted the fudge when it first came together and it seemed a little boring and one-note. So I stirred in a pinch of cinnamon and just a little bit if sea salt. That totally did it. I will absolutely make these again and again.

Crazy Mixed Up Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2011
This was a pretty good, extremely easy chocolate cake. It did have a bit of a salty taste (I used sea salt, not table salt), but I actually really liked it. I think it cut the sweetness of the cake in a really nice way. As a note, this is definitely a stand alone type of cake, it doesn't come out even so you wouldn't really be able to frost or decorate it. But it really doesn't need frosting or anything to be really good.

Sugar Nut Bars

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
These bars are basically just flour, brown sugar, and butter so the texture was grainy and heavy. It was super dense and had no depth of flavor, it was just an overly sweet lump.

Frozen Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Balls

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2009
I really love cookie dough, but this recipe just didn't cut it. They were dry, and once frozen were really hard. They also just didn't taste right. These would probably be ok mixed into ice cream, but they're just mediocre on their own.

Curried Chicken and Brown Rice Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2009
I absolutely love this recipe. It does not taste like curry in my opinion, but it's still very good. I do make slight modifications, I omit the boullion (sp?) b/c I try to tightly control the amount of sodium I eat. Also, I don't like raisins so I use dried cranberries instead. Thanks for the great recipe!

Jalapeno Popper Spread

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2008
I followed a previous suggestion to create a topping out of freshly grated Parmesan cheese and panko bread crumbs. It was soooo good. The dip tasted exactly like a jalapeno popper. My family used Kashi 7 crackers to scoop up the dip and it gave it a nice crunch. This recipe will definitely come out for many parties in the future.

Canadian Molasses Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2008
Ok, if I were to rate these things as cookies, they would only be getting one star. These do not even remotely resemble a molasses cookie, the texture is all wrong. If, however I were to rate them as a molasses-y caramelized sugar confection to be used as a garnish, these are alright. They have a nice molasses and ginger flavor. They are crispy (like burnt sugar) on the edges and the middles resemble a nougat texture. Again, in my opinion these are NOT cookies, but would serve fairly well as an ice cream garnish.

Acorn Squash

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2008
My mom has been making this since I was a kid. The only thing she adds is a slice of bacon for each squash half. The salty-smokey flavor of the bacon gives a great kick to the super sweet dish. Trust me, if you don't mind eating meat it's a GREAT addition.

Colorful Bulgur Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2008
The combination of cracked bulgar and vegetables was wonderful. When I made the dressing it didn't smell very good, so instead I made a vinaigrette of cider vinegar, chili powder, and olive oil. The cider vinegar added a bright note to the salad.

Made Me Love Pumpkin Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2008
This cake was absolutely great! I made it 'just because' and my roommates ate it all in about 2 days. I also made my own cream cheese frosting (Cream Cheese Frosting II from this site) and they went fantastic together.
