Classic Rice Pilaf

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2013
Followed the recipe almost exactly ( used only evoo as suggested by one review, added a chicken bouillon cube and 2 cups water and vegetable broth to get the full 3 cups),aside from those changes everything was exact. There might be misuse with the rice that I used, but it took forever to cook. It became mushy by the time I decided to move it to pan and cook it with more veggie broth. I wasn't too much a fan of the flavor, but my mom thought it was delicious. I don't think I'd make it again, even with with proper rice though.

White and Wild Rice Pilaf

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2012
This dish was amazing. I took the advice of others and added two chicken bouillon cubes. It made it a bit salty, but the flavor was absolutely delicious. My family has a similar recipe for thanksgiving that is a wild rice stuffing, made in a very similar fashion, but this is a much cheaper method. Will definitely be making this pretty often. Super easy!

Apple Strudel Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2011
Excellent! I followed the more common suggestions( chopped and shredded apples, 1/2t nutmeg and 1t Cinnamon on batter) and they turned out great! for those of you that love to eat batter rather than cook it, this is the way to go! I made 1 batch but accidently chopped and shredded about 2x as many apples for 1 recipe so I made another match and cooked it in a bread pan. Havn't tried it yet, but it looks just as yummy. Cooked it for about 40 min at the same temp. Will make again!

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2011
As far as homemade with normal flour goes (sometimes it can be bland) this are pretty darn delicious! I woke up today feeling like baking, and I had frozen berries, so this worked out perfectly. I didnt change a thing except that I combined my frozen fruit with flour and sugar before adding it so that I wouldnt get purple streaks throughout. I was a little worried about the texture (it is VERY thick, almost like a cookie batter) but had read that other people had the same experience so I let it go. They turned out very good, although I made it a little to glutinous, so the tops didnt rise too much. These are excellent overall and I can't wait t share =D

Buttermilk Pancakes II

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2011
I had buttermilk on hand and had no idea what to make except pancakes! These were good, I was hoping for something a little more flavorful (more like a restaurants) but they were still very good. I followed the recipe exactly except I scales it down to 4 servings. As everyone was saying, the recipe is way bigger than it sounds. Scaled down to 4 I had about 6 which two of them where very large and could have made as two seperate pancakes. I might make this again, but will probably keep searching for a better recipe in the meantime...

Easy Batter Fruit Cobbler

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2010
This was excellent! My mom and cousin make another version of this (different recipe from this site) and I bought 5 lbs of peaches and needed to do something with them. So I made this! The batter turned out just right! The only change I made was using probably 1/2C of evaporated milk and then 1/4C milk since I didn't have enough milk. Came out perfectly though!

Shepherd's Pie VI

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2010
This was quite delicious! I made changes as everyone said to (beef gravy, Worcestershire sauce, veggies directly into the meat). For the potatoes, I used one of those country crock tubs, the loaded one was quite delicious, if you do use this, use at least two tubs, i only had one and needed to make more with instant potatoes. I also added mushrooms to the meat and some extra spices (salt, pepper, seasoning salt, and a small amount of rooster sauce). Overall, it was delicious. I will be making this again!

Mistakenly Zesty Pork Chops

Reviewed: May 3, 2010
I Thought this was very good, the cocktail sauce gave it a nice taste. I'm not a big pork chop fan but this was delicious, it was not too wet, but just right. My roommate and I are going to try this on other types of meat in the future, like chicken or fish. It should be just as awesome

Cauliflower Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2010
This was pretty darn good! I made it for my roommate and I. We didn't know what we wanted to dinner but we had a cauliflower head. I didn't really change the recipe much except that I first tossed the cauliflower with the butter (drained the excess butter too) and then added the other ingredients. I also added a little bit of cheddar cheese to the mixture as well as some bread crumbs over the final topping of cheese. OH! i also added about 1/2C onion to the mixture! it gave ti a really nice taste!!!Ultimately, this was a very good cheap meal! will think about making it again!

Honey Walnut Shrimp

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2009
This was pretty darn exceptional! I have a restaurant near me that sells this as an entree and I absolutely LOVE it! This is a GREAT recreation of it! The only suggestion that I would make would be to use less honey. With less honey this would be exactly like Hunan's!

Garlic Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2009
This was a VERY good dinner! I had all the ingredients at home, which was EXACTLY what i was looking for since I dont have much right now...Technically, I didn't have the bread crumbs but I made my own for the first time and succeeded very well. The only changes to the recipe that i made were adding my usual spices (onion adn garlic powder, red pepper flakes, celery salt, italian seasoning, salt, pepper...). I processed it all up and it was delicious. Oh, and i also used fresh parsley. The only problem that I had with the recipe was that the breading started to burn after about 10 minutes, i came back 10 minutes later and it was VERY close to being a lost meal. had to turn off the oven so that I could still eat. I dont know if this was due to the fact that my breadcrumbs were homemade or may too wet, but still...Otherwise, this was an excellent meal! My dad loved it and rated it as his top 5 all-time meal. and if I do say so myself, thats pretty good!

Tomato Basil Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2009
This was awesome! I'm a poor college student and I didn't have all the ingredients (as specified) so I improvised. Instead on using the cans, I used maybe 3 cups of tomatoes and instead of rice pilaf I used a Lipton Chicken flavored rice side. I also added a little white rice as well. I also used probably 2.5 cups water. Also, i added spices to the mix (Garlic Powder, Salt and Pepper.....). All in all, this was DELICIOUS!

Apple Scones

Reviewed: Aug. 10, 2008
These were pretty darn good...but they had a problem: no flavor. I covered the scones in Cinnamon and Sugar, as i really love cinnamon. But even with that it was not to flavorful. It needs more to it. The only change I made was using heavy cream instead of milk, because i was out.

Neptune's Favorite Crab Bisque

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2007
this was a very simple soup to make, yet very good. I made it as a double recipe and instead of cream of asparugus (couldnt find it) we used cream of shrimp and celery instead. we also used more crab. also, we put about 2t of Old Bay seasoning by way of other reveiwers. This gave the soup a semi-spicy flavor. In general it was a very good soup. My motehr LOVED it!
