Manicotti Alla Romana

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2011
This was VERY good. Not too often my husband asks for anything special for supper (usually because he can't think of anything) but he has asked for this a few times already. The only thing I changed was to elimate the spinach and substituted the ricotta cheese for cottage cheese. The white sauce is what really brings out the flavor, but instead of the 2TBSP of chicken boullion granules I only used a bit less than 1 TBSP. I'm not much for salt, and it didn't taste salty at all. It also freezes so well. I made double the amount of manicottie and froze them (without any sauce on them) After they were frozen I divided them and vacuum sealed them in individual portions. Thaw before baking and just arrange them with the sauce the way you would right to begin with. It is so easy to bring out what you need. Serve it with a salad and garlic toast and it is a fast and tasty meal.

Quick Gnocchi

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2010
I wasn't sure if I should try this or not because I have never used instant potatoes, but I'm glad I did. I have made these for years but quite a bit larger. I also used Betty Crocker's roasted garlic and it had a great flavor. They are also very good with a beef and pork roast with the gravy over them. Would probably be good with chicken and gravy too.

Thanksgiving Leftover Casserole

Reviewed: May 4, 2010
This is the second time I have made it. The first time I followed the recipe exactly but with extra seasonings, salt pepper and poultry seasoning. The next time I had quite a bit of turkey gravy left over and used that instead of the milk sauce. It was very good both ways but the turkey gravy does give it a much nicer flavor.

Marinated Baked Pork Chops

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2010
I don't care for pork chops that much, but these are very good. I did marinate for about 5 hours and also tripled the sauce. The only problem was that I found the sauce to be a bit thin. The last 15 minutes of baking time I took the chops out of the sauce, poured the sauce into a small pot and thickened it with cornstarch. Simmered for a couple of minutes on top of the stove until it thickened. Then returned it to the original baking dish and poured the sauce over the chops and put it back in the oven for another 15 minutes. It turned out perfect. I will try it in the slow cooker next time which should really tenderize the chops. It went really good with "onion rice and pea and crab salad" also from this site. This has definitely got to be the best place to find great recipes.

Crab and Pea Salad

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2010
Very good. I added a tbsp. of sugar a bit of milk and some cider vinegar to the mayonnaise which gave it a little extra flavor, but either way it is a very nice salad.

German Rouladen

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2010
I have been making these for years but instead of flank stk. I usually use round steak and slice it very thin. If the meat is partially frozen it is quite easy to slice. 1/4 inch is too thick and won't be that easy to roll. Have the strips long enough so you can easily give them a complete roll at least 2 times. Sometimes I spread a little horseradish on the strips too which gives them a nice flavor. I cook the bacon in the microwave for a few minutes before putting it on the meat, otherwise it stays pretty raw. Instead of water I use either swansons or campbells beef broth and then thicken with flour to make a nice gravy and let simmer in the gravy.

We enjoyed this very much and it freezes so well. Much easier and quicker to make than regular cabbage rolls and tastes just as good.

Meatloaf with Fried Onions and Ranch Seasoning

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2010
This is a very good meatloaf, very tasty. The only thing I changed was used stove top stuffing instead of the seasoned bread stuffing and served it with the mushroom gravy from this site.

California Cole Slaw

This is an excellent salad. I had doubts at first because I don't care for cider vinegar, but this was very good.

Sloppy Joes II

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2008
This is the second time I have made this and it is excellent. This time I doubled the recipe so I could seal and freeze the rest with the food saver. Just added extra green peppers and took other reviewers suggestions and divided ketchup with 1/2 BBQ sauce and didn't need any brown sugar. This recipe, along with so many others from this site is VERY GOOD. Best recipe site I have ever come across. Thanks.

Pineapple Upside-Down Cake VII

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2008
This is the best pineapple upside down cake I have ever made. Based on other reviews, I used a skillet and sprayed it with non-stick cooking spray before melting the butter. Used all pineapple juice for the liquids and also used Fudge Marble Cake Mix. It turned out perfect and didn't stick to the skillet at all.

Bread Machine Rolls

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2008
These are great and I didn't change a thing. I am certain that I am the world's worst baker. My mother(I'm sure she was one of the best bakers)she was manager in a big bakery for many years. Unfortunately none of her talents rubbed off on me. I have tried many times to bake different things and nothing has turned out. This time it turned out just perfect. I was so proud that I even took some over to a neighbor. Have to wait for her verdict later :-) I would like to say that if I can do these, then anyone can. I served these with the "Sloppy Joes 11' recipe also from this site, and a coleslaw. It was very good. For the dessert I used the "chocolate cobbler" from here also. It was all very good. Thank you for a great recipe.

Baked Ziti I

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2007
This was an excellent recipe and OH so very good!! At first I thought it may taste alot like lasagna but it didn't. It had it's own very special flavor. Even the hubby, who doesn't care too much for lasagna, and after having the first bite said "O boy, this is really good. That in itself should give it a much higher rating than 5 stars. I couldn't find any ziti pasta so used Tortiglioni pasta, but this would be good with pretty well any kind. Thanks for a wonderful recepe.

Mushroom Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2007
I have tried so many recipes from this site but have never taken the time to rate them. I think it is time I did. We really enjoyed this and I'm sure anyone who likes mushrooms will definitely enjoy this too. I did fry up the onions along with the mushrooms before adding them and used a combination of swiss and chedder. I am always looking for something new and different and this was very nice. Thank you for a great new recipe.
