Tuesday was not a wonderful day for me. My car stalled in the middle of the road, and it wouldn't start again. So I called the tow truck and my boys. The truck towed me, and my boys made dinner. Tuesday is Mac and Cheese night. Andrew asked what recipe he should use, so I just told him to… MORE

It's been a bit dry lately on my blog. A few weeks! Well, my excuses vary, from the lame (watching too much TV--NHL hockey playoffs are on) to the sublime (is there a better food to write about). We just tried Chuck's Favourite Mac & Cheese, without good results. It was an interesting… MORE

K8 suggested adding all sorts of goodies to KD, like sausage, more cheese, etc., etc. That's when the KD sauce becomes more of a flavour enhancer. The next time KD is required, I'll take you up on the suggestion, K8—I'll have to, the box won't be enough. K8 seems to have the right idea in… MORE

In the interest of presenting a completely objective and scientific perspective on the art of making macaroni and cheese, it would only be fair to have one entry about Kraft Dinner, aka, boxed macaroni and cheese. OK, I was tired when I got home from work. We had the sharp cheddar version… MORE

Thanks for the wonderful comments. I'm new to blogging, though not new to computers or writing (so what took me so long?), and have discovered a great outlet. What's so heart warming about Macaroni and Cheese? The history of this dish goes all the way back to Marco Polo, who brought noodles… MORE

Often in my life I have gone through learning experiences that are etched into the fabric of my being. That list includes lessons from 46 years ago (tricycles don't fly) to last October (banks are more interested in me than I am interested in them). Tuesday I learned to read a recipe first,… MORE

Here's a link to a great article by Pam Anderson on Mac and Cheese. http://allrecipes.com/HowTo/Macaroni-and-Cheese-The-Real-MacCoy/Detail.aspx I'm not a cook, so learning the lingo will be part of the process. Apparently there are two basic varieties of Mac and Cheese: béchamel-based and… MORE

I tried a recipe from LEACH called Macaroni and Cheese V. Perhaps LEACH used "V" to mean "five", but for me it means "victory". Well, almost. I followed the recipe exactly as described, and it was pretty good, and a thousand times better than my first attempt (should I delete that embarrassing… MORE

OK, so I created this blog and thought "what am I thinking, no-one will be interested." So I ignored it and went on with my life. I even cooked mac and cheese again, twice, and didn't catch you up on my adventure. Well, no longer. Now that I have an audience, I can't let you down.Thank you for… MORE

I am declaring that I am the worst macaroni and cheese maker ever. Here's my shameful recipe: boil macaroni (anything that's in the cupboard), grate some cheese. When the macaroni is cooked, put it into two loaf pans, cover the macaroni with cheese, sprinkle some hot mustard powder on top, and… MORE

About Me
Single dad with two boys (16 and 17) at home. I teach computers and like to write.
My favorite things to cook
Oatmeal raisin cookies. Also enjoy cooking healthy meals because I look forward to the results - lots of energy, boys on honor roll and doing well in their sports. Oh, and Macaroni and Cheese.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Ham. I love ham.
My cooking triumphs
I used goose berry compote in place of applesauce for an oatmeal raisin cookie recipe -- very good. I also have my own Christmas Cake recipe.
My cooking tragedies
When I was six, my sister and I walked into the kitchen and decided to bake a cake ...
