About this Cook
I'm 19 and a freshman in college, and last year began to cook dinner for my family sometimes. I'm an old-fashioned girl, and like to do things the old-fashioned way, like making things from scratch. My dad's mom was an excellent cook and seamstress, and I find that as I get older, I'm getting more interested in cooking and sewing and in improving those domestic skills.
My cooking tragedies
My first attempt at cooking was in the 4th grade. I was trying to make instant mashed potatoes. (I know---how can you mess up instant ANYTHING?) I didn't read the directions correctly, and I ended up burning them. My dad made me eat the whole batch. I now know how to make homemade mashed potatoes, and have done so very successfully! :)

Hot Cross Buns I
It is a pretty simple recipe, but I did something wrong, because mine rose the first time, but didn't rise the second time. If you want to raise this dough in the oven, what temperature and how long do you do it for? Mine kindof came out OK, but they tasted kindof bland and were a bit hard, which I'm sure is entirely my own fault. Can anyone help me here???

Sarah's Applesauce
I just made this recipe this afternoon, and it turned out very nicely. I used Gala apples, though, and I think next time I'll try it with a different kind of apple, because it was lacking a bit of sweetness/tartness that I like in applesauce. Very easy, very good. Thanks for posting this recipe! Update---I've made this recipe several times now. The last time I made it, I didn't put in the suggested amount of cinnamon---I just dumped in as much as I wanted, plus I put in ground cloves. It needs a lot of spice to make the flavour come out. It was the best batch that I've made so far. Thanks again for this recipe! :)

Lemonade Cake II
I've made a recipe very similar to this before. It was my grandmother's recipe that she made often when my dad and his brothers were growing up and was a favourite of theirs. This is an excellent recipe--it's very sweet!
