About this Cook
I am a mother of four children, ages 10-17. I teach Spanish at a small, private college when I am not chasing kids. My hobbies are reading, writing, hiding vegetables in foods my kids' like, cooking, singing, cooking while singing, y hablo espaƱol a veces.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake and to experiment while baking. I love to find the *best* recipe for a favorite item--like the best brownie recipe ever--and then see how far I can tweek it to make it healthier without losing what makes it great.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have many memories of cooking with my mom and my brother. I want to have the same memories of cooking with my kids. My favorite family cooking traditions revolve around cooking certain foods for certain occasions--ham and cheese grits for Easter; candies and sugar cookies at Christmas; the huge meal at Thanksgiving; corn on the cob in the summer.
My cooking triumphs
Rainbow kettle corn, zucchini in meatloaf, and zucchini in birthday cake.
My cooking tragedies
Kool-aid popcorn--such a great idea with such great potential that turned out to be not edible or pretty.

Caramel Apple Bars I
My family/guests loved this. I definitely thought it needed more apples, but loved the texture of the caramel and bar parts!

Oatmeal Fruit Cookie Mix In A Jar
I thought these were pretty good -the texture is more cake-y than chewy. My husband and son both liked these. I was out of wheat germ so I upped the quantity of oats to 1 1/2 cups and it seemed to work well.

Double Fudge Brownie Mix
this is my favorite brownie recipe, hands down. Perfect texture, freezes well and simple enough to remember even when I've lost the recipe!
