Grandpa's Classic Coney Sauce

Reviewed: May 29, 2012
I admit, I am a hotdog fanatic. This recipe has been in my files waaay too long. I had not separated a 5 lb. package of ground beef and decided to hold onto 2 lbs and not put into the freezer so I could make this recipe last night to go on some grilled hotdogs tonight. Of course, the aroma made me crazy so I nuked a dawg, added this sauce and fell in love with your Grandpa!! This is totally TNT CONEY sauce. Delicious is sooo understated!!

Peanut Noodles

Reviewed: May 29, 2012
I make this often as a side for most of the meats we end up cooking on the grill (great go-togethers) and have them cold the next day for my lunch. I did cut back on the PB and used half of the green along with all of the white onion (scallions). Ginger amount is just right! Forgive me for not making 95 changes and then giving a 4 star review! We loved this recipe. Many thanks for sharing.

All Day Apple Butter

Reviewed: May 12, 2012
To the delight of every grandkid and big kids, I have made this several times. Here it is the middle of May and youngest GK told me I was almost out of apple butter. I just started another batch using this recipe. The only thing I do differently is add a handful of the little red cinnamon candies as the apples cook. We love it on buttered toast, biscuits or with potato pancakes on special weekend mornings. It is utterly delicious and is served in my home year round. Thank you so much for an excellent recipe!!

Spicy Mac and Cheese Soup

Reviewed: May 7, 2012
"Souper" easy and delicious. I cut the recipe down to half for the 2 of us and proceeded as directed. It was the perfect amount to go with a huge tossed salad for our dinner with just enough left over to go to work with DH for his lunch. Who doesn't love mac n cheese and to put it in a soup? Perfection!!

Cola Pork Chops

Reviewed: May 4, 2012
Had 2 thick cut chops marinating to go onto grill for tonights dinner. Big boomers and a lot of rain ended that idea and I went looking for recipes. Found this one I had saved and decided it was a little late in the game for anything fancy and I had all the ingredients at my fingertips. I have to tell you, the chops were juicy, tender and delicious! The sauce of cola, ketchup and brown sugar was a touch of genius. I have no idea why I was saving this recipe instead of using it, which I will do often. Big raves from DH, my favorite critic. Loved it. Thank you for sharing!!

Grandma's Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2012
All the GK's at my house for weekend and all 3 begging for Gmas baked chuck roast, "smashed" potatoes and any green veggie. I found this recipe and not being able to tolerate the standard greenbean casserole under any conditions, decided to give this a whirl. One of the GK's asked if they could mop out the bowl with a dinner roll. All I can say is, next time, I WILL double the ingredients. This recipe said 10 servings, there were 5 of us and everyone went back for seconds. A perfect side dish I look forward to doing many times over! TY!

Stuffed Strawberries

This is decadence on steroids!! I dipped some in melted chocolate candy coating and vanilla candy coating and they didn't last long enough to get a photo. This super fast, easy, and delicious dessert will make a believer out of the biggest dessert skeptic!

Honey Dijon Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2012
I'm not fond of finding a recipe and rearranging, deleting, adding until after I've made it the first time. Stacy, I have to tell you, I didn't change anything with this recipe and these are some of the BEST Brussel sprouts I've ever made, bar none!!! I wanted something different, remembered the sprouts and made them to your specs and had them with some BBQ'd ribs. Cut them in half, boiled them for almost 5 minutes which left them with just the right amount of crunch. The combination of butter, honey mustard dill and onion is delightful. Please know that your recipe has been saved and shared already with my daughter and 2 neighbors. I can't wait to do this one again. TY!!

Strawberry Cheesecake Bites

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2012
I wanted to do it faster so I used a ziplock-style bag and cut the hole too big. Start over. What a mess I made and I'd do this mess all over again. There really are not enough left on the plate to share. Okay, one or two for DH...provided he gets home early...! Strawberries, cream cheese and chocolate? Pure TNT!! And I was going to put the berries into a salad...Silly me!

Best Spanish Rice

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2012
Followed Karen H's instructions to saute the rice until translucent along with the onions. I did add another 1/2 cup of chunky salsa. It worked beautifully. We loved the taste and the texture was excellent as well, with the rice being perfectly cooked. I look forward to doing this often!

Sour Cream Lemon Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2012
Was looking for something lemony to get us beyond this rainy humdrum weather and this was the first recipe I found where I had all the ingredients. I didn't change the first letter. Texture is like a very creamy, rich custard with just the right amount of tartness from the lemon. We loved it. Both of us went back for seconds and DH took all but the last slice to work for coffeebreak. I look forward to an encore performance!! TY for sharing. Oh, shoot, I did change it...sorry. I used a Graham cracker crust instead of a pie shell.

Coconut Poke Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2012
My coconut loving husband is already asking for another one of these. I used about 2/3's of a can of coconut "milk" and a whole can of sweetened condensed milk and tossed in 1 cup of coconut into the batter. This was perfectly sweet enough for us. As soon as I took it out of the oven I used a chopstick with the largest round end to poke holes for the combined milks. I used a large spoon and tilted the cake pan in order to assure the milks getting into as many of the poked holes as possible instead of having it run off to soak the edge of the cake. I'm posting a picture so you can see the holes in the cake. It was topped with an entire 8 ounce container of lite Cool Whip and sprinkled with toasted coconut. Since it was done in a 9X13 pan I shared with a neighbor who called and asked for the recipe and was stunned to learn it was a cake mix! After hubby's first serving, he mumbled something about "not sharing anymore cakes"!! Totally deelish!

Black-Eyed Pea Gumbo

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2012
This is a "baby, it's cold outside and I'm hungry" recipe for anyone who has spent time in the chilly temps and needs warming from the inside out! I followed the recipe with the exception of subbing the can of diced tomatoes for a can of tomatoes and okra, which gave the soup a real gumbo effect. Added a bit of salt and pepper as I do everything I cook, served with a loaf of AR's Amish White Bread and we had a perfect meal. Super easy to prepare, ingredients you have on hand lots of flavor and sticktoitiveness!! Will gladly do this again.

Sarah's Applesauce

My mom made this using Ivory Soap finely grated. Our clothes smelled so sweet and fresh. I haven't used it but would love to and also share with DD just to bring back the memories of the best smelling clothes ever! The price we pay today for detgergent would certainly compel one to give it a try!

Raspberry and Almond Shortbread Thumbprints

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2011
I owe you an apology! I found these last year and made them to go on my Christmas cookie plates for neighbors. I made them again in February because they looked beautiful for a Valentine's dessert. GK's and DH just loved them. I made them again in September for grandsons 3rd grade class. Not one has survived either occasion! Grape jelly, raspberry, strawberry and blueberry have been used with great success. I was just looking through my cookie list and saw them and knew that they'd be on this years cookie platters as well. My DH took Valentine Day cookie leftovers to work and i shared the recipe with 4 of the gals in his office. To say they are a favorite is an understatement. I'm softening some butter "as we speak"! Thank you for a proven winner!!

Peach Pork Picante

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2011
Perfect! Looking for something different and hit the jackpot!! Easy is an understatement with the availability of ingredients and quick to prepare. The peach preserves give it a surprise slight hint of sweetness and the taco seasoning was right on target. I made this for 3 adults and 3 GK's from 8 to 15. DH got up this AM and wanted to know if there was enough left over for him to take to work for his lunch. Well, yeah, but I was looking forward to having it for MY lunch. I conceded defeat, lovingly. ChristyJ, thank you. I look forward to doing this again!! Six thumbs up!!

Coconut Cream Meringue Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2011
This brought back a lot of fond memories of the cream pies we had that my mom made for Sunday dinner desserts. I didn't have enough milk on hand for the 2 cups called for so I subbed with 2 cups of canned coconut milk. (Not the sweet stuff!) This pie is positively decadent! I had a slice for breakfast (cause I'm the Gma!) and the flavors have combined to make it even richer tasting. Refrigeration is key to making this pie over the top. Thank you so much for sharing and I look forward to doing this one often.

Breakfast Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2011
I've made them several times now and each time they disappear without a trace. I get about 20 medium sized cookies out of each batch so it's well worth making double. I made a double batch and wrapped them 2 each in plastic wrap and then put prewrapped cookies in one large freezer bag. This way, the children can go get a cookie bundle, toss it into their book bag and at snack time they have a delicious homemade cookie. My DH has taken them to work and I've shared this recipe with everyone in his office. They are even better when left to sit in an airtight cookie jar overnight . Can't say how they'd be after a day or so because they simply don't last that long in this house! Louise, thank you for sharing!!

Ryan's Reverse Popper Dip

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2011
Most excellent! I used only 3 jalapeno peppers, only because I was serving it to the children as well as adults, out of our garden and diced them VERY fine. Why is my oregano jar empty? Anyway, added a bit more cumin and used 1/3 fat cream cheese as that was what I had on hand. My GKs loved it and my DD asked for recipe after her first bite. Really, really good and I can see this as part of our Super Bowl celebration! Way to go, Cat!
