About this Cook
I'm a transplanted Okie! I was born and raised in the Peach State. Deeply cherishing my Southern Georgia roots, I defend them every chance I get. I still cook and eat, in moderation, true Southern foods. I even introduced my husband, born & raised in Michigan, to grits. That means I get to have them occasionally. Even though he puts syrup on them, I'm glad he eats them! My teen daughter is appalled! :)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Our family trademark dessert recipe was received at a family reunion. It quickly became Mama's dessert to make at holidays & gatherings. Then, when I grew up, it was requested frequently by family members as well.
My cooking triumphs
Daddy's all-time favorite cake was a 7-layer Lemon Cheese Cake. I got the recipe & went to work. It was a challenge! If you cook the frosting too long, it "turns to sugar". If you don't cook it long enough, well it runs off or soaks into the layers. It is an art to get it right. Finally,after several attempts, I got it!!!
My cooking tragedies
I can't think of anything specific. However, I've had my share.

Rainbow Pasta Salad I
I took this to a salad potluck at work. It was a big hit. Now I make it for us. I've made various minor changes now and then, but I always come back to the original version. For a change I like to use a Red Wine Vinaigrette!!

Sock It to Me Cake IV
This is from my childhood. I've been searching for the right one. Papaw didn't like sweets much at all. Normally, he wouldn't even taste it. He took a piece and exclaimed, "Dang (edited) that's good." Every since then we called it that. This is awesome!!!
