Grandma Olga's Kolacky

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2009
I have been looking for a cookie recipe like this forever. This is a great one! Here are a few tips. Bake on a silpat, helps with even baking and clean up. When I rolled out my dough I used a combination of flour and sugar to avoid an overly flourly taste. Depending on the size balls you seperate your dough into you should be able to get 12-16 cookies out of each one. Dont over fill these, maybe a tsp of filling or it spreads out and makes a mess. Also these freeze very well... just seperate layers with wax paper. Dont garnish with powdered sugar until you are ready to serve. Thanks for an awesome recipe!

Italian Spaghetti Sauce with Meatballs

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2009
Very good recipe. I added green peppers and mushrooms and some additional basil and oregano. The meat balls are a little bland so I will add some extra spices next time, also they cooked perfectly without being browned, huge time saver. Overall great recipe.... will make again.

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

These were only OK. Kind of bland. I did add some extra seasoning but maybe not enough. Nothing wrong with these potatoes... just nothing great about them either.

Great! Followed the recipe exactly and it turned out perfect. I did like the photo shows.... Lining the vanilla cookies around the edges and adding some crushed on top for a pretty presentation!

High Temperature Eye-of-Round Roast

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2009
Awesome! We both liked this a lot! Not a big fan of my meat being rare so I cooked my roast 11 mins per pound at 475, then shut off the oven a didnt peek for 2 hours. Did have to reheat this when it was done but it was juicy and flavorful. Also added several cloves of glaric to the inside. This is a keeper!

Garlic Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2009
Loved these. I cut my regular red potatoes a bit smaller. Maybe each potato into eighths. Threw them into a glass bowl with a tiny bit of water. Microwaved 10 mins, flipping them once after 5 mins. After this I poured them into a 9x13 pan, coated them with the sauce and baked about 20 mins, broiled them the last 5 for some crispness. Next time I will add more fresh garlic or some additional garlic powder for a little more flavor. Great recipe!

Broccoli Rice Casserole

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2009
I liked this a lot. I cut the recipe in half. I used 1 can of cream of celery soup instead of using celery. Milk instead of water. Also added some garlic powder. Topped with half a roll of crushed ritz crackers mixed with a half a stick of melted butter. Worth trying. A great comfort food type of side dish.

Slow Cooker Beef Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2008
You really cant get more simple than this!! And honestly its really good. I took a few tips from other reviewers and made a couple of my own and it turned out great. Any of the vegetables that I could find in low sodium I used.... I used the juice from all but the green beans.... not sure why but the recipe didnt say to use it so I didnt. I used both package of the beef onion soup mix that came in the box. I added a few splashes, maybe a tablespoon of worst. sauce and a few shakes of garlic powder. Plus I used 2 cans of low sodium beef broth... I'm glad I did because it would have too thick without. What I didnt do and would do next time for sure is cut the stew meat into fours.... it was way too big as it came for soup. This is a very easy and good recipe... a keeper for sure!! Doesnt taste like canned vegetables at all!!
