Lady Baltimore Frosting

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2008
My daughter's favorite cake is angel food with "sticky frosting" like her grandmother and aunt has always made. I have tried many, many recipes but for one reason or another they never quite made the grade (would dry out, develop a crust, etc.). This recipe is totally what I've been searching for. Used this on an angel food cake for Easter dinner and everyone loved it. This recipe does make a lot of frosting so next time I'll either halve the recipe, make 2 angel food cakes or make one cake and some kind of cupcakes to use up the leftovers. Could possibly be used for the filling in whoopie pies. Many thanks for this recipe!

Grilled Lemon Herb Pork Chops

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2009
Although I've found lots of wonderful recipes on this site I rarely submit a review - actually I've only submitted one other review since joining in 2008. But this recipes deserves accolades! I was looking for another way to prepare pork chops and came across this recipe. I prepared it exactly as written and it was INCREDIBLE! DH was thrilled with dinner tonight. Many thanks to the submitter. We will use this recipe many, many times.

Memphis Rub

Reviewed: May 21, 2009
I used slightly less cayenne pepper due to personal taste and did not use MSG. This rub is FANTASTIC on chicken and I'm sure it will be great on other meats as well. Will use many times in the future. I'm thinking of packaging some up to give as small gifts. Thanks for a great recipe!

Teena's Overnight Southern Buttermilk Biscuits

Reviewed: May 26, 2009
I had some buttermilk that I needed to use up when I found this recipe. It is FABULOUS and SO easy! I loved being able to make the dough last night, then just roll out, cut and bake this morning. They are fantastic! Thanks for a great recipe. It's a keeper for sure!

Soft Garlic Breadsticks

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2009
These breadsticks are FABULOUS!!! Definitely a keeper! I mixed up the dough in my Kitchen Aid mixer with the dough hook instead of using my bread machine. Although I had all the ingredients out on the cabinet, I forgot to add the Parmasean cheese to the dough but I will next time. After mixing, I let the dough rise 40 min, shaped into 16 breadsticks, let them rise another 20 min. Then I brushed them with melted garlic butter (added Parmasean cheese to it) and baked. Between 6 people, they were all gone when dinner was over. I'm sure this would make great pizza crust as well. I'm going to try that next.

Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2009
This is without a doubt the alltime best ice cream I have ever made - and I've made a lot of ice cream. After reading other reviews the only thing I did differently was to double the vanilla. In addition to the wonderful taste, the texture is perfection. This is my new ice cream recipe. I seriously doubt a better ice cream recipe can ever be found. Try it - you will NOT be disappointed.

Marshmallow Fondant

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2009
I've always liked the look of fondant but it just tastes so awful! Then I found this recipe and thought I'd try it. But before I had time to I came across and signed up to take a fondant class. At the 1st class the instructor said marshmallow fondant is far better taste-wise (and cost-wise) to use on a cake but the store bought stuff is better when making 3-D decorations. (I'll have to test that for myself.) So before the 2nd class I whipped up a batch using this recipe and found it to be very easy to make. I did microwave the marshmallows at 30 sec intervals until melted, then used my Kitchen Aid mixer to mix everything together, making sure to grease the bowl and dough hook very well with shortening prior to adding the ingredients. The mixer did the kneading for the most part, then I completed the kneading on a large, greased plastic cutting board. I think you could do it on a greased countertop if need be. It worked great! 2nd class came and the instructor told us if the marshmallow fondant is too hard to knead when you're ready to use it you can zap it in the microwave for just a couple of seconds and it becomes pliable again. Use caution when microwaving it, it only takes a couple of seconds. I haven't tried coloring the fondant yet but I don't see that it would be a problem whether you add the coloring to the melted marshmallows first or knead it into the finished fondant.

Pizza Casserole

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2009
This is so quick, easy and good! DH and grandsons loved it! Used rotinin and I didn't have pizza sauce so I sub'd spaghetti sauce. Didn't have onion or garlic so used dried onion flakes and garlic powder. Added a bit of Italian seasoning. Forgot to add the milk but it didn't seem to be an issue.

Gingerbread Men

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2009
After reading the reviews I used Jello instant butterscotch pudding mix. The store only had the SUGAR FREE variety. That did NOT make a difference at all. The dough was perfect to work with. I rolled out to about 1/4" thick and baked for 12 minutes. One batch made 5 larger cookies and 10 smaller ones. They were perfect. I made these as a test batch in anticipation of using the recipe for punch & cookies time after our Christmas Eve church service. I will definitely be making at least a double, maybe even a triple batch. You can't go wrong with this recipe. NOTE: If you are looking for a more traditional spicy gingerbread cookie you might want to look elsewhere. These cookies have a light gingerbread taste, perfect for children - and me!

I made these for our Christmas Open House and they were so good! I only got 40 cookies but the amount of fudge came out about right. I will definitely make these again.

French Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2010
I've made this recipe 3 times within the last week, once for home and once for a late Christmas celebration. Instead of making 2 loaves from each recipe, I made 1 large loaf. We cut it, spread it with garlic butter and toasted it on a griddle the first time and in the oven the second time (made 2 loaves for the celebration). Each time it was wonderful!
