About this Cook
My mother is a fantastic cook who spent many a Saturday up to her elbows in flour, I loved the food she made and watched her baking so much that I picked up some of her magic. Having traveled a bit I've been influenced by where I've been and keep the best of all I've gathered to enjoy the tastes I've found on all my adventures.
My favorite things to cook
I find nothing more wonderful than pulling out of the oven a beautifully baked cake, nothing more satisfying than the sound of a sharp blade running through the surface of a nicely rolled Korean kimbap, and then the mixed tastes and textures on my tongue!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Fresh warm Strawberry Short-cakes with cream in summer. Christmas cluttie Dumpling. Saturday morning pancakes. The Sunday afternoon celebration otherwise known as Sunday dinner. That we not only bless our food in my family but are but are known also to worship it!
My cooking triumphs
when I at last got my scones nearly as good as my mums!
My cooking tragedies
my older sister instructed me as a child that adding sugar on macaroni cheese would make it taste better. We almost set the kitchen on fire a few times.. I recall a Saturday when our toast ignited and we threw the toast and tray out the back door to the garden to get the fire out. I'm not very good at getting rice right, and I always set the smoke alarm off when I make crispy bacon.

Danish Rice Pudding with Almonds
My husband is Danish, we have this every Christmas and eat it leading up to Christmas with just slight alterations. We make a large pot of rice plain without almonds, vanilla and cream the day before and eat it for supper with a little butter and sugar cinnamon sprinkled on, the next day we add the cream and almonds and true Danish style top with Cherry sauce. Nom Nom Nom. Niels makes it for my family in Scotland and they LOVE it! Mustn't forget a marzipan pig for the prize when the whole almond has been found!

Janet's Rich Banana Bread
Only change I made was swapping nuts for chocolate chips. I will never use any other banana bread recipe again.
