Countdown to the Maui AllRecipeeps Roundup!

Heads up all! It is 367 days until the Maui roundup. I am inviting one and all to meet us in Lahaina in West Maui on October 17, 2013. I hope you are planning on attending and saving your pennies for this Allrecipeeps gathering. So far, we have about 20 folks who have committed and we hope to have more. (Word has it that there might be a few from the Allrecipes headquarters too)

This is the shoulder season for Maui travel, so air, cars and accommodations should be more favorable. You can fly in and out whatever dates work for you, but the official date for the big gathering is Thursday Oct 17, 2013.

I know this is NOT a cheap trip, but I am trying to offer as much money pinching strategies as I possibly can. I will be staying at the Papakea resort at Kaanapali in a condo and I think this would be a great property to accommodate all the peeps. They have studio, one, two and three bedroom units at all price points. My girlfriend has quite a few units that she manages, so below, you will find a link to my old condo and if you scroll down the page, click on "see all my listings". She has quite a few and if you tell her that you are with Allrecipes/Julie and Miranda will  offer a discount.

Beyond any sightseeing, we plan to do some communal cooking and just plain hanging out together. I know that many will be sharing condos to cut the cost of this trip even further. I also suggest that you start researching the airlines that might bring you to Maui (airport code OGG) from your area and if you want to save slowly, buy your favored airline's gift certs so that you can be saving toward the cost of the trip every week or month. Make sure you let your family know so maybe Santa will put some travel money in a stocking. (or in your birthday card)You will be surprised at how fast you can realize that ticket. You might also consider sharing a condo with another peep. I am sure there will be an opportunity for most folks to share if they want to.

I will be starting a Facebook page to chat about this in the next week so stay tuned for more info and more fun. A hui hou kakou! (until we meet again) Warmest aloha, Julie aka mauigirl

It's looking like we'll be there, mauigirl! I can't make a solid commitment, yet, but I should be able to in a few more weeks! ... I think we need to get Cat some liquid courage or(maybe) just knock her out.

Oct. 14, 2012 2:29 pm
I am DEF going to try. If I can swing the flight. . .what's the weather like? Is it illegal to string a hammock?. . .:) I'm all good with "roughin' it" to make it.

You've picked a great date - that's our anniversary! However, I'm pretty sure we can't make it. I know you will all have a blast and I will be there in spirit!

hi julie! i certainly want to surprise the wife with a trip to hawaii. but, at this moment i'm awaiting an opportunity that would cancel my plans. i would even have to move the redneck round-up earlier. such a long flight to hawaii that we would stay at least a week. i finally found a place that we can order coconut butter from! i'll know something hopefully by the 16th...claire's birthday.

I'm going to be bikini ready for sure! I am so looking forward to this. I'm brining some beach babes with me, hope that is ok. My Zumba ladies have decided we should make it next years "girls trip" on top of it. They are totally awesome ladies and they love to cook! Aloha! ps. I'm brining my fins and mask, but renting a board, too pricey to carry with and I'm not good enough to know the difference :-)

Oct. 14, 2012 5:44 pm
I've seen the hula and I do not believe my wife wants me to flaunt that much flesh. But, if it would make Cat make the trip ...

Oct. 15, 2012 4:23 am
MG: I checked my work schedule. It lands in my seven consecutive 12-hour nightshifts, which means a minimum of 84 hours of vacation. Ouch! That'll be almost as painful as the expenses. But it sounds like a blast, so I'm giving it some serious thought.

Oct. 15, 2012 9:03 am
There is not enough tequilla to get me on that flight! Or flights if I recall my cousin's trip correctly. Mike, I just don't know what to say about possible sacrifice to get my there. Linda might not want to share all that with the public!

Oct. 15, 2012 9:57 am
Mike...remember I said that you walk the talk.....you're on kid! You could work this into your cancer fundraiser too. Folks would pay big bucks to see you hula :)

Oct. 15, 2012 9:58 am
DelMarGirl...the more the merrier :)

Oct. 15, 2012 9:59 am

Oct. 15, 2012 10:00 am
cathill.....like the song goes...."I'd rather be sorry for something I've done, than for something that I didn't do". Think big!

Oct. 15, 2012 4:48 pm
Hmmm. Doing a hula 1/4 mile at a time- only in a loin cloth, big belly 68yoa and barefoot? Yeah! I'll need some spray tan, temporary tatau and a bottle of vodka in a coconut.

Oct. 15, 2012 7:29 pm
Not even touching the last two posts! LOLOL!

Oct. 16, 2012 8:24 am
Hi Julie! Just the mention of an "AR P-A-R-T-E-E" sends chills down my spine! Count me already there! Randy will be making our condo reservation shortly. We'll vacation in Maui with you and et al and then hop over to Oahu for a few days. Party On, Peeps!

Thanks, Julie. I'll give Randy the info for Miranda's properties and I know he'll get them set ASAP. He's very good at making travel arrangements. Daughter Stacie and I are making "USEFUL" Maui party gifts for our Maui Beach Bash peep-les! We'll talk later - wink, wink!

Aww, I was hoping to make this, almost have enough points for the airfare! But now that the first marching band season is coming to an end (a learing experience for me)....I know that this is the busiest competition time for those kids. I'll need to stay home for my little girl! Hugs to you!

About Me
I have been married for 43 years to the most amazing man on the planet. He is quiet and deliberate and I am NOT. We have one grown son (and his partner) that we adore. Because they work for the airlines they drop in on a flight frequently and we feel so lucky for that. We retired after 30 years at our careers from our native Olympia to Maui and now most recently retreated to Las Vegas to try to ride out this horrendous economy. We bought a small home here and I gutted it and am putting it back together, so I spend most of my time fine tuning the decorating and now I am plunging into a full tropical landscaping to remind us of our beautiful Maui. I miss the PNW, but NOT the weather. Miss the razor clams and the wild beaches of Washington and Oregon. Miss my friends too. Happy to have my friends from Allrecipes though. The four legged critter you see on my profile is a five year old yorkie/bichon who is the greatest little (9 lbs) girl ever. Quiet and calm, but so excited about life.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook just about anything...just mostly like the art of cooking and baking and sharing my art with friends and families. Love the smells that emanate from my kitchen and the familiar memories that come flooding back. The scents from my kitchen are probably my favorite thing in the house.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother used to like to make a big deal out of almost any holiday, so I have followed through with that tradition. Valentine's Day, Christmas, St. Paddy's day, Thanksgiving, Easter, Oscar night are just a few of my favorite cooking traditions. Birthday parties for all my loved ones are something I love to do too.
My cooking triumphs
The first time I mastered sauce bearnaise, or raviolis from scratch or my first perfect cheesecake or my first wedding catering job or meeting Julia Child (about 25 years ago).
My cooking tragedies
(See above) Well....Julia was so cranky and rude it ruined my love of her.....so I sold all my Julia Child cookbooks (some of them signed) at a garage sale for $1.00 apiece. Now I wish I would have kept them of course. I guess Julia was just having a bad day:( & I was foolish of course.
