Aloha from Las Vegas! I needed to jump in and remind the AllRecipeeps that I will be hosting the 2nd annual Viva Las Vegas blowout on Saturday May 19, 2012 at my home in Las Vegas.

If you have never attended one of these gatherings in various parts of the country, you are missing a real treat. Like many others who have attended or hosted one of these get togethers, I have found a great group of folks who have become much loved friends. I would certainly encourage anyone to host a gathering or just meet up with a fellow AR friend in your area or along your travels. I always enjoy reading about the encounters of AR members across the country. These meetings never cease to bring a smile to my face :)

We had a blast last year and I think this year will be no exception. I have received RSVP's from many of last years attendees. There will also be many new faces this year from across America. Folks will be arriving throughout the week, so we will be doing all the fun Las Vegas sight seeing as a run up to the gathering at my home. We will be having a no host dinner on Friday night at the Harley Davidson Cafe on the Strip as a meet and greet. Many of us will gather for brunch on Sunday morning before folks depart for home. Believe me, we enjoy every minute of this and we all part happy to be a part of it.

Hey Julie, I was so hoping to come and planning to come, but things aren't looking good right now, $$$wise. Without going into detail, my DH is ill and the meds for his treatment are through the roof! On top of that, it looks like Uncle Sam will get the best of us this year...again. I haven't given up totally, but I'm relying on lottery tickets now!

Wyattdogster, if there is any way you are welcome to have our spare bedroom. Hope your sweetheart is well soon.

I sure would love to come and join you all. I just got an email about a class reunion...thought that would be great, come to Vegas and rent a car and drive to southern Calif...but they aren't having it until October...so that won't work. If we weren't attending the Southern Round up, I'd try and swing it. Next year maybe...you all have a great time.

If you are looking for a reasonable priced room and don't mind staying in downtown, Golden Nugget has redone their rooms and have them on sale right now for $69. The aquarium pool is nice. I've never stayed here, but know plenty of people that have and all said good things.

I look back at last year's Blowout with such fond memories Mauigirl. You are the consumate hostess. If anyone is thinking about going, quit thinking and JUST DO IT!!! You'll not regret it. We had a wonderful time, met the greatest people going and ate some of the best food. I wish I could come again this year, but I will be there in spirit. VIVA LAS VEGAS!!!

:-( I'm sad that we will be leaving LV just a few weeks beforehand and won't make it this year. It was so fun to meet all of the ladies that attended last year. It was my first foray into the AllRecipes family gatherings and I met so many wonderful people. I hope everyone who has considered attending will take a leap of faith and go for it. I'm sure glad that I did.

About Me
I have been married for 43 years to the most amazing man on the planet. He is quiet and deliberate and I am NOT. We have one grown son (and his partner) that we adore. Because they work for the airlines they drop in on a flight frequently and we feel so lucky for that. We retired after 30 years at our careers from our native Olympia to Maui and now most recently retreated to Las Vegas to try to ride out this horrendous economy. We bought a small home here and I gutted it and am putting it back together, so I spend most of my time fine tuning the decorating and now I am plunging into a full tropical landscaping to remind us of our beautiful Maui. I miss the PNW, but NOT the weather. Miss the razor clams and the wild beaches of Washington and Oregon. Miss my friends too. Happy to have my friends from Allrecipes though. The four legged critter you see on my profile is a five year old yorkie/bichon who is the greatest little (9 lbs) girl ever. Quiet and calm, but so excited about life.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook just about anything...just mostly like the art of cooking and baking and sharing my art with friends and families. Love the smells that emanate from my kitchen and the familiar memories that come flooding back. The scents from my kitchen are probably my favorite thing in the house.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother used to like to make a big deal out of almost any holiday, so I have followed through with that tradition. Valentine's Day, Christmas, St. Paddy's day, Thanksgiving, Easter, Oscar night are just a few of my favorite cooking traditions. Birthday parties for all my loved ones are something I love to do too.
My cooking triumphs
The first time I mastered sauce bearnaise, or raviolis from scratch or my first perfect cheesecake or my first wedding catering job or meeting Julia Child (about 25 years ago).
My cooking tragedies
(See above) Well....Julia was so cranky and rude it ruined my love of her.....so I sold all my Julia Child cookbooks (some of them signed) at a garage sale for $1.00 apiece. Now I wish I would have kept them of course. I guess Julia was just having a bad day:( & I was foolish of course.
